Motion has a tendency to draw your attention...which is natural. For many species, it is a defense strategy to freeze and stand perfectly still, as it makes them less noticeable to predators in the area.

Yeah that could be a problem. So it apply the brake and put you in the ditch. That not good Hopefully the ABS could, but on ice or snow you are in a bad spot if anything to go wrong. Even the ABS would not help. Even without Cruse control going that emergency braking could take over.

I have one of these systems on my truck now, and I've had it on other trucks before. I hate it. It goes off about every two or three days when it "sees" an overpass stopped ahead of me. I have a real fear of it slamming on the brakes when I'm driving on a slick surface, for the reasons Sharky88 mentioned.

Also, as for some new system that's going to stop my truck on a dime, forget it. There's a thing called surge with liquid tankers. That system is likely to cause a rollover.

All of that aside, can we just agree that the driver in this case probably completely failed to pay attention to what was ahead of him and as a result killed one and injured 20-some others? It's sad because it didn't have to happen.

Problem is even with the cruse off if you take your foot off the gas to slow down for the car it will slam on the brakes. The only way to disengage it is to step on the gas! I unplugged it. Got a check lite on the dash but I can live with it! I will never get another truck with this system on it again!!!!!!

My truck has that system. Not only would it probably have helped this driver, but my system stops for overpasses on empty highways 1-2 times per month.

Yeah I hear about that, hoping mine don't to that. Thought I read you can override it just by push on throttle

Mine doesn’t do any of this. Funny thing is when I’m home driving personal vehicle I’m looking for display to see how close I am getting to the car in front of me lol. I seem to be more comfortable driving a big truck vs. pickup truck. Never noticed this in the past.

Probably automatic trans too huh. All this stuff makes it easier for all these steering wheel holders to babble on the phone and search the internet while driving. None of that helps when you are doing 60mph with a heavy load and traffic is stopped by then it is too late and none of that will help.
Not saying this is you but i like my old iron where i have gear shifter and no driving assist and i also use an old flip fone which makes impossible to get sidetracked. I focus sincerely whats going on in the road ahead and shifting gears and looking in the mirrors makes me part of the truck and what its doing. I think all this new technology is making it easier for idiots with no regard to safety to get into trucking. And now seeing a new breed of idiots killing people

If it's in your truck it's working. You can't turn it off. I would never drive a truck with it, but have driven two on short runs for a temp job. PITA. If you are on cruise and someone cuts in front it slows you down. If someone turns on front of you and you can see they are going to complete the turn no matter. It doesn't know that and will apply the brakes. But, in scenario above it might have saved that kid's life. More ammunition for Big Brother.
