We escaped Troy, Ohio (not far from Kokomo) 1 1/2 year ago. Never ever shovel snow again! Good luck with all that ! Moved here to Murfreesboro, TN.
There's a world famous dirt track In Celina, Ohio owned by Tony Stewart. Forget the name of it.
As an Aviation enthusiast, make sure you make the pilgrimage down there to Troy for the Annual Waco weekend. Absolutely fascinating planes. They used to built in Troy along with those WWII gliders.
Must put the USAF Museum down at Wright-Patterson, AFB on your must see list. They recently built a 5th hanger there. Yes, it is that HUGE. Been there 15-20 times and always see something new there. I was AD USAF back then. Lived in that area 26 years.
Back in 1991, I watched the SR71 on display there fly in there for it;s final flight. Just amazing !
Back to LTL driving. I too am researching them hard as well as I don't want to do OTR either. Wife is Disabled and we have no family so OTR is a last resort.
There is a Holland terminal 1 hr North of me in Nashville. I applied for a Dock/Driver Trainee program there last week or so. I've also applied to SE Freight, YRC and Central Transport as well. I haven't heard anything back. I hope it's not an age thing.... I'm 57. Who knows the hell knows.... ???
I'm starting a Class B job tomorrow. $20 Hour driving a Paint striping truck. Hoping that's going to work out.dennisroc Thanks this. -
I am going to live there in a flying community, got my airplane, kids and grandkids all real close. I had a hangar built and put in floor heat so I can rough out the winters if needed.
My wife is Filipina and we have a place on the beach in the Philippines when I get real cold lol.
I will be 66 in December so I don't really need to work but it just always sounded interesting to drive a truck. -
Freight is up right now and more likely than not, your work hours will exceed 40 hours a week and you may not have a choice with that if they can't offer you a part-time position. Someone please correct me if I am wrong on this.dennisroc Thanks this. -
