Our profession is doomed unless drivers organize

Dick TM called me on 7/17/19 back. Offered me my job back. I said sure if they reset my vacation clock and i still keep my seniority. So been back at it since. A union would be nice, what ideas are good for keeping the union clean?

 

I lost my truck in Katrina and went company driver thinking of going back o/o

 

Ive been leaning towards private carrier's and hourly wages in the twilight of my career , something I should have looked for earlier except the chrome and shiny wheels blinded me.

 

Why did you quit in the first place?

 

I remember back in the day we clogged up the interstate south of Cleveland OH protesting the price of fuel which was half what it is now. OH was the Cali of the east with their split speed limits & max 55. So we all did exactly 54 to 55. Bears where threatening drivers with tickets for following the law. But we told them on the CB we would all stop on the freeway during any traffic stop for following the laws of Ohio, so they never did.

 

This should be repeated over and over again.

Cause it's true. Not being in debt to banks, other people, etc is truly a good thing.

It's one reason, I hardly use credit cards.

I get the strike/organize thing. I really do but like others, I don't see it happening. In this day an age it's a me, me, me, all about me world. Then again...if retail workers, Fast food employees can strike...maybe the trucking profession could to.

56 in the Buckeye and the OSP would write you a ticket , I remember what was it Bryan County ,The sheriffs daughter ran off with a driver or maybe that was just lunch counter banter.

 

If the sheriffs daughter ran off with a driver wouldn’t the sheriffs department be the one out to get drivers and not Ohio state police?

 

They’re no match for me. I ran into one of them with my car.

He said “Why didn’t you go around me?”

I said “I didn’t think I had enough gas! *Rim Shot*

They’re not only fat, they’re ugly! I dragged the other one to the beach and a fella walks up to me and asked “What’d you use for bait?”. *Rim Shot*

The freedom being an owner operator can give is very alluring but ya need to take a good long look in the mirror and ask yourself some hard questions.

Katrina didn't put you out of business, it was just the nail in the coffin. What steps have you taken to not repeat the same mistakes?
