    Ive questioned that myself.

Then again load 48 pallets double stacked takes care of that question.

Then again Ive questioned two pallets of batched vials of demerol in the nose about a pile two feet high wrapped beyond reasoning due to tracking inside each one. It was one of the few times McKesson introduced me to a load that was really something else.

I blurted out a stupid question, why not stick that into a side door van and go to Detriot, you don't need a 18 wheeler for this. You know they said to me, its easy to steal a van, but a 18 wheeler with tracking across the board? Unlikely. (It has happened before..)

    I still wonder sometimes.

A long time ago in the 1990 time period I backed a old 45 foot carrier reefer trailer into the dock in Springfield Mass I think it was. A ex textile mill that was essentially historical ground. (I think it burned or collapsed by now not too certain on that)

The reefer had a small LTL cooler above the trailer doors to one side which was not a problem. And a plastic wrap type chute all the way to the forward ductwork for reefer output.

The Forklift man stuck his tall pallets of the blue Noxema cream product (Empty no label but headed for the final assembly customer) and it kind of caught on the duct. a little jiggle and both are in.

    What he do?

Pulled them right off and said aint loading this trailer. Such BS.

I roar wtf? Never you mind that first two, you had it in right. Now fill me up. (To the doors)

    NO.

Listen here yank, that trailer load is depended on to arrive tomorrow you don't load that box you will get the blame when customer runs out of containers to fill and label tomorrow.

His response was pretty profane. I was on my phone at his desk to my boss. I heard the same reaction WTF? and then waited there 2 hours while they hammered the phone lines back and forth. Stubborn forklift driver was right there talk to him oh no... we are dealing with higher level people with real authority "Drivah" you would know nothing about it. *Sniffs...

I had a temper which was well in control until that last sentance came out of there. Closed the doors hopped in and drive down to Amesbury truckstop and bar and had me two shots and a soda over a hour of a few smokes. Then had a burger dinner to polish that evening off. (Since burned down, all of it...)

It took me three days to get my temper to where I was safe to drive. Empty dead head home to Maryland, 12 hours.

What a waste. Fuel 1.30 and rising and talk of future problems in trucking etc. Had us all stressed that year.

"Just a drivah" made that into a bumper sticker and stuck it onto the side bar. Let them laugh.

To this day I cannot walk past the blue cream containers at walmart store walkway for beauty products and think of that wasted week.

Last load I picked up that near maxed me out was turned and stacked, it was supposed to not go on a reefer but it fit, 64 pieces, the doors shut tight on it.

Used to haul cased empty containers for oil and antifreeze, those would not fit in a reefer, and some leads need a plate van for width.

I wonder if any of them gave any thought to slowing down because of the high winds?
I've been blown sideways on ice a few times when it was windy, once on the Mackinac Bridge.
Many times the truck started dancing around after clearing a windbreak of some kind, also had my trailer tracking several feet to one side or the other a few times, and this is all after I had slowed down to compensate for the high wind speeds.
A couple times I was lucky enough to drive into a dust devil with a low heavy load, like hitting a big pillow, slows you down quick and smooth.

Alot of damage from that storm. In New Jersey the storm ripped a roof off and burned a house down on a youtube creator. We dodged it here in Maine.
Alas storms of severity will become the norm with what man has done to the climate.

an old boss of mine, said many times, that HIS father used to say, "all that stuff they send up to space, is causing all these problems"

the old man was an immigrant from Sweden. i think way back then, he saw things the scientists never did...

Driving through New Mexico I was side-swiped by a dust devil. I watched it track across the scrub and before it hit the eastbound lanes I got a better hold on the wheel. It still pushed me onto the shoulder, but I was ready for it.

I remember seeing dry vans and reefers getting loaded with shingles at Atlas Roofing in Daingerfield, Texas. I thought, wtf, hope their next load doesn't include any of the food me and my family will be eating -- it'll taste like asphalt.

I used to have loads for Ollie's where you would just barely crack the back door to see if it was all going to fall when you opened them.
