I can’t imagine a worse account for a new driver.

I started out doing produce, Hunts Point , World Variety , LA and SF Produce Markets. Dollar Generals are a walk in the park as long as they remember to be cautious, safety first, get a few miles under there belt and move on.
Tankers are also worse than Dollar for a new driver, by the way.

I used to go into Kennedy Airport with a reefer semi to get airfreight food now and then. Considering where we are now after 9-11 and what I was back then with that giant holstered blade on my belt next to the wallet... (Yech... if i walked into a facility like that today packing something that big.. ugh...) that was for cutting nets on their palleted freight.

There were times that the dock boss would roar a bad word and order me to load it all as it is. And those loads usually turned into a story time for the future.

We are a free state in way of blades now, you can have a foot long toothpick if thats your fancy, just not in your hand near people thats all.

Yup, I do remember running loads on the bottom of the tank for fuel because I could not scale with a full tank, When I first went with me Dad I thought on the first trip out he was kidding when he said he would drive to Tupincari NM, from Salinas CA. But he did thats where he wanted to changed drivers, headed for Queens. Those days........Teaching me how far to go after he gave me my own truck to drive. Thats where he wanted me to layover for 6 or so hours they head east, Men were men and sheep were nervous..... Just joking to all those PITA people, men were nervous too,

Thank you!!!! I said something about docks and so the discussion begins about whether or not there's unloading docks at these stores.
Whatever and wherever you have to back in whether it be a dock or just a spot in the parking lot it will most likely be tight. Just because the store don't have a dock does not mean you can unload in the turning lane.

In that case I would just blatantly stick it next to the front doors and have the tractor crooked over everything.

I have done that a couple of times. Manager gets two inch thicks tack of bills on 6000 spices she orded out of McCormick... (Baltimore0 asking me where you at?) right there. (Front)

Darn it mr trucker I waddle half a day around you need a bus on the other side to get in here. You sure in the way aint you?

(When Baltimore pulls the word "Aint" this is a storm warning. Likely the only one you get.)

If PTSD means me sitting in the Shrink's Office RAGING full on about those curses 6000 little tiny boxes of spices, all of them with tiny numbers in sequence that has to match the blessed spreadsheet that is 15 inches wide 9 high a page and 2 inches thick off a old style dot matrix high speed printer.

IF it means me to roar and threaten to go postal and shoot people in that facility beause I have had it up to here and sick of Spices... then Ive got problems dontcha think?

This was 30 years ago. I cannot hardly buy a 4.00 bottle of spice something without feeling that anger rise up in me. fiddly detail and numbers work. 12 digites, 16 digites and so on, I can remember 9 when calm and I can snatch 7 in two groups max when in battle. But its not reliable.

Todays computer wizary in logistics should just let me pickup a walmart inventory gun off a walmart staffer, aim it at my trailer and wait for MR BIP to confirm all 6000 individually ordred spices are indeed int hat trailer. It would be a time to just dump it in a pile behind the dock and let the store truck driver pick what they require for their stores. They get paid 90,000 a year picking food products is not a problem.

We have that trouble in Darden. The metal rollers.

Never mind the #### rollers keep your eye on the sky for falling frozen crab. 120 pounds of it plus hoarice and other problems contained therein.

    THUNMP!

IF you are going to have a splitting headache thats it. IF you had one before that should take care of it.

As long the #### thing falls on YOU pile driving you into the pavement busting your spine and 4 ribs and penetrating a lung, its still undamaged which is really important. Market value on those is really really expensive. As far as laying under apile of boxes, get moving. Its no time to sleep on the job.

Every Dollar General around me, and we have a lot of them, does not have a dock. The driver has to Tommy Lift these rolling carts into the store. The parking lots were not designed for trucks. On the positive side, every time they can find an open corner they are building another Dollar General. There will be a lot of deliveries.
