So its currently snowing over snoqualmie pass and they're making everyone put on chains (semi's and vehicles over 10K lbs) They never take good care of that pass for some reason. Every time it starts snowing they dont plow it and wait until there's multiple collisions sometimes with death of someone. Then they shut it down sometimes up to 10hrs and clean it, haul off wrecked vehicles and open it back up. Is it just retard DOT manager or what gives?

hey, if i recall, Vermont DOES NOT PLOW thier roads at night..so you'd have to sit and wait till daytime for the plows...

The chain law goes up so they can drop the speed limit. CA does the same thing on Donner. I imagine it’s somewhat difficult to plow the road effectively with 3-4 lanes in each direction and if it’s snowing heavily they will be behind on plowing before they even start.

There was a towing tv show on Donner a few years ago. Hell on the Highway I think it was called (different show than Jamie Davis and Highway Thru Hell). Always scratched my head as to why cars and pickups needed chains? Our winters up here are way worse and I've never needed chains on my pickup. Even with just regular all season tires.

Warmer temps may have something to do with it. Donner and the other passes to the north get a lot of heavy wet snow that gets packed into ice. You get east of the Donner and east of the Cascades and you rarely see them making passenger vehicles chain up. But we’re also talking about CA, OR, and WA so who knows.

Yep the temps, but then they do not run studded tires or even siped down there. I know even if you have studs, they make you chain when the chain law is up.

You see that on the Coq too though. Could be raining down in the valley and a blizzard at the top.

Many parts of Colorado and Nebraska don't plow at night either

Earlier this year I was taking a load to Brattleboro VT (Old home town) and I had left the Whately Truck Stop in Mass... It was snowing hard and I managed to get right behind the plow trucks on 91... as soon as you hit the Vermont border they made a U turn and it was all tons of fun from there. It’s honestly just the lifestyle up there. But yeah... they do not plow consistently lol

I'd imagine lots of states don't work nights unless needed.

We have them in the city. But once you're out of the population zone. You're on your own till daytime.

I can't say for snowqualmie. But donner don't plow the top. If they do. It's not very often.

Least, they didn't the 3 years I ran that hill.
