Is tanker hauling mostly local , regional, or otr ? Might be something I would look into if you can make a good career out of the OTR side

Most places do not generally haul fuel extremely long distances. My trucks haul gas, diesel, jet A1, and avgas, from 1 km up to 1000 kms. If you don't know kms, 1 km is 0.62 of a mile. Its just not worth it to haul it too far. Another company somewhere else will be hauling it if more than 1000 kms.
Even if not hauling fuel, but something else, it doesn't seem to be hauled extremely far either. If going really far, its often railed the majority of the way, then offloaded onto trucks, and taken to its final destination. About 80% of my fuel comes by rail, and then tank cars i parked on sidings, where my trucks go get it from. I typically have rail cars in four locations, and they can also pull from refineries and tank farms. Some of my fuel trucks rarely come home here to the yard, my drivers live in various towns, and take the trucks home with them. In fact I just got a text not more than 15 minutes ago from a driver letting me know what he delivered today, and that my truck is safely in his driveway for the night. I haven't physically seen that truck in 5 months, and he typically loads from rail cars, and hauls it 15 minutes up to 5 hours away, but there are exceptions occasionally.
Soon that truck is due to come here to the yard, be left behind, and he will leave in a different truck. This is just how I do it, and every place has their own set up on how they do it. Tanker is such an easy job, if you can get on at a good company, you have it made.asphaltreptile311 Thanks this. -
Oil and gas mainly short hauls.... chemicals and food grade much longer hauls.

I'll be running over 2800 miles this week between Texas and Wyoming. We call that "Super Regional".

Some runs I do are from Alabama, to California. Other times, it's from Alabama to Chicago, or Minnesota, rarely to the Carolina's. Just depends, and the return trips are usually Texas, Georgia, or Tennessee. Each week is a lottery. Sometimes I'm out for 2 weeks, other times, 1 day, 2 days, or 3 days. All liquid, mostly hazmat.
