If you were going to make your trucking career local what would you do? Food service , line haul, fuel tankers , coke hauler etc?
Local career ? But what type?

Come hauler? Hmm, must be regional dialect. Well, I'll tell ya', there's no cut and dry answer to that. So much depends on other factors. I did everything and if I was to do it again, probably a regional food grade tanker. Everything else sucks.

I've done p&d and linehaul and they both have their ups and downs. Do you wanna do work mostly or just drive? When I was on the linehaul I would just run doubles out and drop and hook, two nights a week in a hotel. P&D you are pushing pallets in and out more than you actually drive in most cases. Another thing to consider is yard work, I love it because I don't have to deal with traffic.

I think the most profitable local thing i could do is probably deliver stone orders to jobsites with a moffet. Everyone here runs flatbed spread axle full loads to yards. Theres tremendous volume of stone going out wholesale, but if the drop cant fit a tractor and doesnt have a loader on site no one can do it. Especially up in the super steep and narrow carolina mountains. Every wholesale quarry around would kick me their shorty deliveries.
I think it'd be a coffin sleeper tandem straight truck just so i can take my time and maybe wait around on an occasional backhaul.
That or open a repair shop and never leave home. Everyone has broken trucks. Id probably start with roadrangers and 3rds then grow from there.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Was just wondering I'm otr for now but didn't know if there was an insight. I've heard food service is the least popular for long term
