Close call in the fog outside Lubbock, TX

Truck going Wayyy to fast for conditions!!! Thank God all those people and troopers were paying attention enough to be able to start running in the correct direction!!

 

It's a good idea to always watch the traffic 50-100 miles ,ahead through cities to take alternate route , accidents or in bad weather, snow, ice fog even tornadoes t-storms. Any gps device or google map with traffic enabled, shows green moving well, yellow slow, red very slow or stopped.
Just an example right now, I-75 south of Atlanta,GA should see this before you get stuck.

That big rig was definitely hitting something but that 4 wheeler clipped his tire and turned a rear end into a roll over.

 

As much as I think he should hang, he's not entirely at fault. Watch at the beginning of the wreck, even though he was speeding, there's an SUV that cuts in front of him, as he swerves to avoid it, hitting it, he loses control. They both need to be looking at some serious charges.

Running over the speed limit in cruise control watching Netflix on the cell phone does this. Another argument for driver facing cameras mandated in all trucks along with GPS and front bumper auto-braking radar and lane control alarms.

 

Ok, I apologize for the multiple post, sometimes they don't come up on the side, and "Wow, just Wow" could be anything. So, what have we determined aside from them going too fast. WHY were these drivers going so fast in dangerous conditions, and someone else pointed it out, ELD's and HOS. It, combined with trucks that disconnect you from driving (Petes and KW's did that all along) it HAS to be, the driver is under the gun, if they don't make a certain destination in the time allotted, it could mean dismissal anyway. Safety takes a 2nd fiddle. Real nice. Years ago, with a "we'll get there when we get there" attitude, it was no big deal slowing down, or shutting it down entirely, fact is, we got an "atta boy" for doing so. It's not a big deal for me today, just eats at me seeing what has become of the industry I held dear for so many years. Is this the price we pay for hiring "clean" drivers that are morons?

 

I would love to see the police report and see who fault was assigned to.
I was not there, but have seen pictures and or videos of fog, where the fog appeared much worse than real time conditions. For some reason the trooper didn't feel the need for traffic control, some parts of that video the visibility is not bad at all. If the driver was on the other side of the medium, there may have been no need at all to slow down, The 4 wheeler that passed and cut back in on him, didn't think there was either.
There may have been no reason for him to have slowed going the opposite direction, and he may have done nothing wrong at all, except occupy the space some four wheeler thought was his.
I for one will hold off on judgement, myself.
