Nobody does, but since OTR turnover is so high there is no end to the advertising and everybody thinks there is no other way.

Hell, Sysco in my area doesn’t even list a length of experience required. They’ve had this job listed forever. Guaranteed a guy with a fresh CDL would be given a shot. Maybe I’ll ask them to confirm.

People think otr it’s the way to go. If u drive locally u have better chances to get hired than someone that drive otr for long time.

If I wasn't stuck with a year hitch to pay back driving school, I wouldn't be sitting in i90 waiting for Snoqualmie to open back up so I can exercise the privelaged to chain up and drive through this mess. Then I get to see if the other passes are gonna be open. No way this mileage pay is worth it. I'd make more at wendies at this point.

Break your contact and pay it back. Screw working for slave wages.

I agree, he most likely will need to go to a starter company though. Swift and the other megas have positions other then otr.

Sysco is starting to train drivers now and takes drivers right out of school

I have 22 years driving exp and ZERO OTR. Company trained by an Allied Van Lines agent when I was 23

Anymore most Sysco warehouses will take anyone.

    BINGO!

What message does that say to the hiring manager for the next company for which you want to work? They are going to verify employment. Burning bridges is also a bad thing. I know someone, who is a seasoned driver and a trainer, working for Millis that burned his bridge with Heartland Express, many years ago. He is now concerned that due to the buyout, he may not have a job in coming days.

I don't think I'd consider giving a proper notice and paying back your contract obligation for the license as burning a bridge, but maybe I'm off base.

To people with more than 2 brain cells to rub together and a shred of integrity, it might not be.

However, there are those so anal that, financial obligations notwithstanding, even simply not sticking around for the requisite length of time amounts to “burning bridges”.
