Quick question. Was wondering what the physical at a trucking company like (example) schneider, stevens etc, is like. Several years ago i had neck/spine surgery. I know they do urine/hair drug test; ill pass that no problem. Had neck/spine surgery. Have good range of motion side to side, looking down. Not able to really look up; with limited range. Also, do they do blood pressure and eye test? Just finished driving school and looking for first trucking job. Stay safe out there, and thank you mucho in advance!

When you do your DOT test, it has blood pressure and eye test. The eye test is basic, cover one eye, read the letters type deal. DOT test is a government thing so no matter what company you go to, it's all the same. Some company have stricter requirement, like lifting heavier things, pulling, pushing etc etc.
If you have neck/spine surgery, i would stay away from flatbed work. They test stuff like lifting 80lb tarps. Maverick for example, if you do glass, you have to show them lifting the tarp on your shoulder and climbing up the ladder....at the same timeDrGearGrinder Thanks this. -
Not afraid of the lifting. Ive been lifting weights/power lifting for 40+ years. But HR cant look at a person and see how fit they are, but when I “have to disclose” prior surgeries; it sounds worse than it it. And, i understand its more from the insurance companies/coverage point of view.
I know i will pass tge drug test and day time of the day, week, or month. So on the eye exam, basically its one hand over one eye, then cover the other eye? -
Just go to a local walk in clinic that does dot physicals.

Is there anything preventing you from using either eye? Are you afraid of failing one eye or the other?
DrGearGrinder Thanks this. -
Pre employment at Schneider or JBHUNT is pretty straightforward. Lift some weights, walk stairs, duck walk, count to 10 without using your fingers, etc.
Klleetrucking and DrGearGrinder Thank this. -

The many dot page exam with contrasting colors is itself a screening device for very particular eye problems that will become apparent. -
Yeah, you already passed the DOT physical, so shouldn't be anything to be concerned with.
Where is your location. Probably a dozen more choices other than those two companies.

Some companies won't require you to do another physical, but some might check blood pressure.
Don't tell any company anything that isn't asked for specifically, especially Concentra, if you're sent there for another physical.Last edited: Jan 12, 2020
