I drive 68 all the time. I've never gotten a ticket in California. I use a blocker that blocks Cali radar.......
The blocker is me.......... it blocks my truck from going to Cali.snowman1980, Another Canadian driver, Feedman and 30 others Thank this. -
I was, but was uncomfortable about it and kept my speed no more than 75. That was hauling boats and also flatbed with XpressCo which is now Western Express. I haven't driven for Western Express.
I hauled Pro-Craft boats from the factory in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Usually 5 or 6 on a double-deck trailer similar to a car hauling trailer.

It is true. I know a driver get pulled over out west. I don't remember where but the cop pulled him over and asked where it was and he asked what he was talking about and the state trooper said his radar detector. long story short he let them search his truck because he though he hid it well enough but it beeped and he got a huge ticket. Not worth it. just try to stay out of Cali hahaAnother Canadian driver, JolliRoger, austinmike and 3 others Thank this.

Radar detectors aren't very effective. Unless the radar unit is continuously on, it won't be detected. Also it won't pick up Lidar which is what many state police/HP agencies utilize. A CB radio is much cheaper and probably more effective

Much, much cheaper since I got mine for free from a trucker who quit our company! He didn’t have space in his rental car for everything. I haven’t installed it yet though. I’ve just started my Sirius XM ‘free’ trial. I LOVE IT!!! I’m not too sure I want CB noise over it. But, that is a great suggestion. I suppose I don’t have to leave the CB on all the time. Thanks!Last edited: Mar 24, 2023

Pretty sure that the same companies that design the radar detectors are the same ones that develop the radar detector detectors that the cops use. What a racket.

Every tool is effective and should be used together. I hardly ever get bear reports anymore even from other trucks pulling like trailers, been lied to as well cuz well there’s haters in every crowd. However I still run my radio as pass pertinent info accordingly. I miss when it was reliable for sure. Old habits die hard. A bird dog will blip at you a long ways even over a small knoll if he is playing on an off, and I run google maps traffic in back ground it’s saved me out in the dark before any traffic. Course it needs updated like the cb etc. as much as I hate it and as ineffective as it is I still believe in using every tool available. Nothing is fool proof and I am a firm believer don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. I certainly ain’t any one to tell someone else how to run their truck.
Too fast is just as bad as too slow or cruise set at speed limit but off in la la land and never see the vehicles you hit or the curve you miss.JolliRoger, Another Canadian driver, PaulMinternational and 9 others Thank this. -
A bird dog is illegal in CMVs and give false sense of confidence that speeding is OK. You drive more carefully if a steel spike is facing you than if you have an air bag in the steering wheel. Rather than wasting money and volunteering to pay a big fine for having a radar detector, put your speed limit watching skills on high alert and make it your job to read every sign. There is no substitute to reading every speed limit sign.
