Give me facts, scientific facts: I won't disagree out of spite. But if someone somewhere feels like they were born to be limp-wristed who are you to say 'Errrmergherd! That's wrong and us macho-men should be thankful!!!'..... It takes all kinds to keep this place active... You're nobody to do so...... 1 in 7.4 Billion. I reiterate: NOBODY.
I suggest you approach it with more a germanic sensibility toward the comedic and absurd. Absurd, specifically - with a hope you can see the comedy in it. You're just as ####ed as every other poster knocking one down here. Fated to end: irrelevant of how tight the ligaments in your wrist are.Zeviander Thanks this. -

When did driving a truck become a speed racer? Is this the new driving technic being taught in school. I may be retired and out of the truck for some time but has driving changed that much? What happened to the professional that took care of the truck and did not race the piss out of the engine? Even if the truck belongs to someone else doesn't personal driving technics prevail. Has it become move over I'm a big bad truck driver and I own the road?

I guess I may need to re-phrase my question....I really didn't get the answer I was looking for.....
Instead I got "Don't run with scissors" kind of answers....and some off topic crap...
I just used 0-60 as a way to convey my question on how the two trucks compare starting from a stopped position.... didn't mean to have it construed as "Drag Racing" Sorry about that.
So basically. How Do the Trucks compare starting from a stopped position?? I'm certainly not looking to go as fast as possible everywhere I go.....but say I'm at a stop sign and I need to cross a busy roadway and I'm looking for a nice gap so I can shoot across without impeding cross traffic...So; which kind of truck will get you across quicker.....if both trucks are identical except for the transmission (and Fuel economy is a not a concern for the moment; you just want to cross the highway quickly)
Thanks to all in advanceLepton1 Thanks this. -
Nobody asked me if I was okay with it back in 1996, when they took the tachograph out of my truck and put a Qualcomm in. But hey, I don't have to put a card in the QC? Sweet! Then the QC started beeping at me, which is something the tachograph never did. And they can see on a screen in dispatch where I am? This is BULL$#!+!!!! But after a while, I got used to it, and they didn't bug me as much.
I work in a bus garage that is covered by dozens of cameras from all angles. The only place that there are no cameras is the locker room. The old management said they were for safety and security and would not be used for disciplinary purposes. The new management has said, that is no longer the policy. Even the buses now have multiple cameras, inside and out.
I'm trying to get back into trucking. Know why? One reason is that I'd like to get back to having only ONE camera watching me. I wish that there weren't ANY cameras, but those days are gone. Adapt or move on.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I have yet to drive the new 'AUTOs" with all the new world etech gizmos, so we will hafta see about that.
What I am longwindedly saying is that myself I am OLD school.
I prefer the control be at MY finger tips. The shiftpoints / braking etc become second nature with time in the seat.
But hey, I just love driving , and we old hands ( old dawgs, new tricks ) can learn the new ways too.
Some may take a little longer to accept it.
Stay safe. Be Courteous.

I've been driving the 10 speed autoshift for four years now. It does everything slow. It uses every gear. It up shifts through all 10 it down shifts through all 10 constantly. It doesn't skip gears comma and if you put it in manual you can't skip gears either.
The 12 speed on the other hand will skip gears. I run with the 12 speed driver before similar load weight he left me on the hill and also red light.
The thing I like about the automatic is the cruise control and how well it works. Driving down the interstate you see the scale sign open just tap the break to get the cruise off then Jake down and we always get the go around arrow, ease by the scale house push resume I love it.
But don't be in any hurry to cut in front of someone that's already at speed. At intersections wait still nobody's coming because these automatic are slow. Manual transmissions are superior in the right hands comma but with the new drivers and the control the companies one on their truck these automatic Are all the rage for these companies. Makes it easier to control the driver.
I'm old school started in 1977 I prefer the old style trucks but those days are over now we have to drive what's available I have to admit I thought it was bad comma but now I would not go back to a manual I am spoiled rotten.
I also like the Eld on the dash that took some getting used to but it takes all the work out of trucking. No more hard running. No more pulling over to tune up the log book because the Dot is up ahead.
I miss the camaraderie and it's not much fun anymore and it definitely is not trucking. Now I call it camping.Damaged_Goods and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Well let me disagree with most everybody here and put this out here; how fast a truck accelerates is a large safety issue.
Before you get your panties in a bunch and think I am talking crap, think about the situation for a minute. Most accidents caused involving a truck are caused by a car. Like 80% of car/truck accidents are caused by the car driver. Right? You got that? If you don't, look it up. A good portion of those accidents are caused by an impatient car driver waiting for a truck to move or make a maneuver. This is especially important when we as truck driver are often required to occupy more then one lane to turn. Or when we have to accelerate to merge in traffic smoothly. And while we can still blame the impatient and stupid decisions on the car driver most of the time, any accident does not help a driver or trucking company out in any way! It is always safer not to impose a slow truck on other traffic, and if you must, do it quickly and with as much courtesy as possible. Slow automatics fail miserably in that sense.bottomdumpin and Lepton1 Thank this.
