The electronic control module (ECM) controls the engine brakes on cylinder number 1 by sending a signal on engine brake solenoid number 1 signal circuit. The ECM will only command the brakes ON under certain operating conditions.
The engine brake fault code will only become active once the engine brakes are activated and will remain active until the ECM is powered down. Once the ECM is powered down, the fault code will be inactive until the engine brakes are activated again if the circuit interruption is still present. The troubleshooting procedure is designed to troubleshoot an inactive fault code.
Shorted high. Open circuit or high voltage detected at the engine brake solenoid number 1 signal circuit.
Engine brake on cylinder number 1 can be on all the time or cannot be activated.
1. The engine brake solenoids are located under the valve cover.
2. The engine brake connector is located on the intake side of the cylinder head above and forward of the air inlet horn.
1. Open circuit in the engine harness, brake harness, or engine brake solenoids
2. Signal circuit shorted to voltage source in the engine harness
3. Incorrect ECM calibration code in the ECM
4. Failed ECM
5. Loose connection at the engine brake solenoidDadetrucking305 Thanks this. -
and 123
The intake manifold pressure sensor monitors intake manifold pressure and passes information to the electronic control module (ECM) through the engine harness. If intake manifold pressure becomes too low, it will cause a derate condition.
Low signal voltage detected at intake manifold pressure circuit.
Derate in power output of the engine.
The intake manifold pressure sensor is located in the air intake horn.
The intake manifold pressure sensor shares supply and return wires in the engine harness with other sensors. Opens and shorts in the engine harness can cause multiple fault codes to be active. Before troubleshooting Fault Code 123 check for multiple faults.
Possible Causes of this Fault Code Include:
1. Signal circuit open or shorted to ground, in the engine harness or sensor
2. Supply line open or shorted to ground -
