Parking on the shoulder is always a hazardous move, especially in the early morning hours.

There is no indication he was parked on the shoulder.
Getsinyourblood Thanks this. -
Ok. I saw the news on television this morning, and I am pretty sure that reporter said he was parked on the shoulder.
But I agree, it doesn't state that in the link I posted. Thanks for pointing that out.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
I think he pulled over and drug the right side of the van with him. Seems like that carnage to his left that's out in the travel lanes would have gone well past his cab given how violent the impact was. But either way, there was a huge difference in speed.

You got me thinking. They had a live tv crew out there. It was a mini van pulling a U-Haul trailer. The tv reporter speculated that the driver of the mini van probably fell asleep and ran into the back of the tractor trailer.

They do say police believe the truck was stopped on the shoulder and the driver of the mini van may have been napping.
Another senseless loss of life.
People just don't give driving the respect it deserves.A_C_Cooper, Dna Mach and Getsinyourblood Thank this. -
Frankly I'm getting tired of all the trucks lately who stop on the shoulder when there is no mechanical problem. Stopping just before or after exit ramps. They drink 3 times the water they need then endanger the motoring public.
I realize there are "minor emergencies" but I have a hard time believing each truck on the shoulder every 8 miles between OKC and Barstow is having issues that can't be done elsewhere besides the shoulder of a busy interstate.
Maybe should post this as a rant.Longarm, tucker, otherhalftw and 4 others Thank this. -
This statement holds a lot of water.Last edited: Mar 13, 2016

Another article saying truck was stopped on shoulder.
As for stopping on the shoulder I find it baffling that so many do it for no good reason.
I think the stupidest one I saw was someone from the company I'm with. 4 lane US highway, come around a corner and there's a truck stopped on the shoulder. Well, almost on the shoulder. The tractor was but the trailer tandems were still on the roadway. I thought something bad had to have happened. No answer on the CB. Pulled over in front of him to see what was up and he tells me he had to pee so bad he couldn't wait.
It must have come on sudden as there was a truck stop 10 miles back. There was also one 3 miles ahead.
Just around a blind corner, not even all the way off the roadway and he couldn't understand my negative reaction. Still pisses me off when I think of that one.A_C_Cooper, Lepton1, tucker and 2 others Thank this.
