Deep reduction was disconnected on my 15 speed so I never got to try it out before tearing the truck apart. I was told if you're starting out in the lowest gear you shift 1-5 in deep reduction, then 4 and 5 in low range, then 1-5 in high range.

Hee hee! Yes - in a single overdrive 13, back is direct.
In a double overdrive 13 I'm ASSuming that stick against the dash, splitter forwards is direct?
Did I just confuse things . . . ? -
As much trouble we have had with 13 speed I hope nobody asks about twin sticks!

They shift funny, I use to start in 4th with the splitter forward go to 5 then splitter back and go back to 4th then continue as if it's a reg 10speed

I thought about it, and realized that the truck I learned in, we only used 10 gears. 1st under, then 2nd under, 2nd direct 2nd over, 3rd under, 3rd direct, 3rd over, 4th under, 4th direct was cruising gear, and if light we could go into 4th over. Deep under in the brownie was not usable as it was a lower gear than the previous gear, over.

A 15 has a lot of gear overlay so you don't need to split all the lower gear. They also have like a 30% gear step in the under drive so that's why you down shift when going up. You also aren't suppose to go into under while you are moving. Also a 13 is really a 15. But again there is gear overlap. If you go to high side and low hole it's the same ratio as big hole on the low side. If you split the low hole high side it's a half gear higher. Some people say don't do it. Some say it's fine. I personally split it when pulling a big hill.(it faster to get to than dropping the range) just watch your trans temp and don't get it too hot.

And a 6613 is a 10 speed with 3 deep reduction gears. You don't split the top on them.

Back when I hauled the bigger loads I drove an International 9300 that had a 15 mated to a Cummins big cam. What I did with that was if I were heavy I'd use the first three gears in DR, shift to neutral to get it out of DR, than hit 2D and advance from there.noluck Thanks this.

I thought that too, but in a nine speed you still have the OD gear. So wouldn't twelfth be the added gear? Cause in twelfth your not going more than 60 with the engine tached out.
I'll ask our trusty mechanic today. -
12th is a .87 overdrive In a double over 13. 13th is .74
