Yep, great read on both counts, DY. I know that "formerly" low bridge in Melrose Park very well.
I applaud your grandfather for his input to 'set the record straight'.

 

This article must have been some potent fuel to pour on the fire for the safe trucking advocates.

Look at some of the poor habits he chose-
tailgating cars
running egregiously past legal hours
speeding (was this still the era of 55 for trucks?)
log falsification
unauthorized passenger

and company dispatching a load with illegal time limit.

This was a fun read though, sort of a cool literary time capsule.
