Well, my 1st week with Swift went by and it didnt turn out well. 1st off I got a trainer who listened to rap music at full blast!! Talk about a major big headach!! I also only got to drive when it was late at night, like 10PM or so. I found this to be really unnerving because I wasn't used to the truck at all, and now had to throw in night conditions and fatigue. My mentor did 98% of the driving, running off of not only his log book, but also mine!! He would start me on the drive line at say 7PM, but i actually wouldn't drive until 10PM or later. He also put me in for PTI's that he never had me do among other things.
Things really came to a head a couple nights ago when we picked up a load in Iowa to be delivered to Florida. He drove all of the time on hardly any sleep until late Sunday night, and then put me on at around 9PM. I drove until 1:30AM but had to stop the truck to pee, which he threw a fit about!! I told him what did he expect me to do, piss in my pants?? Anyway, he said he was driving even though he has now had less then 30min of sleep in 48HR. After awhile he was going over the lines on each side, and even traveling down two lanes!! I was scarred out of my wits!! I asked him if he was alright and told him he was scaring me, which he then threw a nutty and got very threatening toward me. Keep in mind also now that this guy told me he was a ex-felon who did 2 1/2 years in prison for attempted murder, nice huh!!
So we did make it to our delivery on time, at which point I called my driver manager and said I want off the truck. I then was dropped off at the Ocala terminal and had to take a bus from Florida back to Mass, what fun that was!!
So thats my story, Im going to get another mentor and hope for the best. We will see....................![]()

I wouldn't put up with that either. Sounds like you was there only for your log book. A felon that done 2.5 years? Training? He sounds like a real people person, lol. I would ask for non- felons. Not because felons are bad, because if you got shook down there would be less problems.

Do you have proof if so why don't you take this guy down.
This is a perfect example of the #### that is taking the industry down.
Swift and or no other company should be allowed to use trailer trash for training. You should do what you can to bury him if not for yourself for the next person in line.
NO COMPANY IS WORTH WORKN FOR IF ALL THEY HAVE TO TRAIN WITH ARE DIRT BAGSSSSSSSSSSBURY THE COMPANY

Kilroy, u need to toughen up some, if your gonna make a serious attempt for this to be a career, or you will be gone swiftly.. imo
this reads like this so called mentor needs called out he is a danger to others and you have first hand info.
passing the buck so to speak dont get it. what if next month he runs over a four wheeler u could / might have prevented that ..
consider it your industry duty file a complaint with safety / compliance. -

I guess if you choose the lowest company to work for then why not keep up to there standards. One more reason why trucking has such a high turnover rate. It's not a game it's a life styleand to allow someone like that to drive our highways is a crime in it self if someone dose die because of this guy aren't you just as guilty as he is think about it after all it could be one of your family members who's lost.
