Darned Fed-Ex trucks just refuse to slow down. Weather, traffic, etc they just keep rolling till they roll the truck or hit something. Don't call them "Fed-Wrecks" for nothing. Ive seen them running too fast for traffic conditions dozens of times. Also seen them do dangerous right side passing maneuvers just likeep he tried to do in the video in that news link.

I guess it could have been worse, he could have hit them square in the rear end like that sleepy Crete driver did so many years ago.

I guess I have to wonder why the school bus wasn't in the slow lane in the first place? Not excusing FEDEX, but I think there may be some blame to share here.

The crash happened about 10:30 a.m. as the bus was westbound on I-78, near Route 33 in Lower Saucon Township, and decelerated on a hill as it experienced engine problems in the center lane of the three-lane highway, Pennsylvania State Police said.

A FedEx truck in the right lane tried to drive around the bus as the bus tried to get to the right shoulder, state police said.

While the story reveal the mitigating circumstance that the bus was having engine problems climbing a hill and trying to get from the center lane to the shoulder, IMHO it doesn't absolve the FedEx driver from responsibility. Any time I see a school bus my first assumption is that it is full of kids wearing no seat belts. I give extra room for following distance.
In this situation I have to wonder whether the driver of the bus had his right turn signal on? I bet he did. The right thing for FedEx to do in that situation is to SLOW DOWN and change lanes to the center lane. MAKE ROOM for the bus to safely get over.
Instead he was hammer down, driving like a self centered mindless cluck, refusing to take the safety of a bus load of kids into account. So WHAT if he lost 10 seconds slowing down and making room for the bus to get over??? When you get behind the wheel of a big rig, do your clucking job. For FeEx, "doing your job" MEANS hammer down, dam the torpedoes, run over anything that gets in your way!
Their schedules are set by office clowns, and there are severe penalties for both company drivers and contractors for failing to meet those schedules.
Remember, Fed Ex is a corporation. Corporations don't see people, the see numbers on a profit/loss statement. You mean nothing to them. Your children mean nothing to them. If that school bus had been full of elementary school children, the media would have slobbered and drooled over the accident for two days (before returning to the ingoing three ring circus that is politics today), and the Fed Ex would have paid whoever needed paid to make it go away and written the settlement of as a cost of doing business.
