I would wait until you're 21 if you are planning to go with a mega company. If you go to school now, it will be four months before they hire you and four months since your CDL school. They may frown on it.

In my perfect world, people would join the military for four years and then decide what they want to do.

I think getting class A is a great idea at 20. I sure as #### wouldn’t be anxious to go over the road.

I'd go now. No sense waiting if it's what you want. I wouldn't rush out to go otr though. Unless you really want to. Find a local Class A job where you're home daily, and enjoy your youth.

If you have no interest in college or schooling right now then i think its a good idea. You'll probably change ypur mind real quick after a few years out here . save up money so once you find out what you want to do....your set.

Ill be 26 years old this year, driving for three years. Im planning on going to school to become a diesel tech or some kind of vocation. I still want to be involved with the commercial trucking industry. Im only concerned about driving my life away, but i still love big rigs, and this whole industry.

Thanks you for showing concern, but my goal isn’t to be OTR as a career or at all for that matter. I know many local jobs and higher paying jobs require experienced drivers, so if I have to be OTR for a year or two, I’ll do it. But I’m hoping to get to the point to where I can get my hazmat endorment be able to haul oil tankers or maybe land a job at a power line company where my cousin works (he has his class A and makes well over $7,000 a month for this union company)

I don’t know exactly what company it is, but he’s with IBEW (international brotherhood of electrical workers) and this company does local repairs in the state and also goes to disaster areas to help repair power lines. Last year he was in Florida and told me he made over $100,000 last year
