Just bought this truck to pull our heavy equipment. Have fixed five air leaks, but I notice the air dryer located behind the cab in the frame leaks when the air tanks finish filling up. It leaks off 15 lbs or so very slowly then stops. Is it supposed to do this? Or does it need to be replaced. I am using the truck to take my CDL test, and I am the truck will fail the 1 minute brake hold on because of this.
By the way, Hello to all.

Depending on what type of air dryer it has, the purge valve on the bottom can be rebuilt/replaced. Very simple to do. All you need is a set of snap ring pliers to pull the snap ring out, pry the purge valve out, slide new one in, and put snap ring back in. 5 minute job. If all else fails, bypass the air dryer if you don't have the $ to replace it.

Thank you BulletProof. I was hoping it could be rebuilt. I was going to rebuild the Jake brake controller (it was leaking too) because it costs $790, but there was no rebuild kit for it. After replacing it I took the old one apart and I believe I could have taken it apart and cleaned and lubed it and it would have stopped leaking.
I will take the purge valve out and replace it or rebuild it. Thanks again.

No problem. If I'm not mistaken, the kit to replace the purge valve only costs about $60. It has been a while since I bought one. Either way, it's a lot cheaper than a $600 air dryer assembly.

Not sure which model air dryer you have, but if it is a wabco the Turbo valve is a very common problem on those. Get under tractor and see where it is leaking. If it is the large exhaust port on the bottom that is the purge valve. If it is a small port that looks like it is covered with a button sized rubber plug that is the Turbo valve. and they also make the kit to replace just that part of the dryer as well.

It was the big (purge) valve. I bought a rebuild kit and just installed it. I will check the other one too, though. Thanks!
