2013 MX13 Paccar - Strange Noise

My 2016 does something similar, although mine is more of a backfire thru the intake like a gas engine that's running out of time. You can see the hood flex when it does it, so it's forcing boost pressure back thru the fresh air ducting. 2 Pete shops and my company shop can't replicate, but they also don't drive it with a loaded trailer. It seems to do it worse after a long pull...the longer and steeper the pull, the harder the pop. I was thinking something hanging up in the erg plumbing.

 

Could be a leaking exhaust manifold gasket/ joint. They sound similar to what you are describing.
Does the loud noise happen after you let off the throttle? Probably a turbo chuff then. If you are jaking hard and cut the jakes out with the clutch it will do something similar. Next time you are at pete make sure they update the ecm to the latest calibration

 

If it's the same sound I am thinking of than it's normal... I am buying a 2013 pete with a mx13.. I at first thought there was something wrong by hearing that sound of air but than checked 6 other trucks with same engine and they all have that noise...

It's from the passenger side close to turbo almost

 

U have to use DAF Davie ore Paccar ECA software to check compression and cylinder ballance.

usually it is one bad fuel pump ore injector

 

I have a 15 pete 579 mx13 and have same problem and low power some one help this cant be normal

My 2016 MX does same thing 5 exhaust manifolds 3 EGR valves and 2 turbos later still happens

 

Check, the humidity sensor, It exhausts air on the actuator control and doesn't let it build boost because the vgt turbo doesn't know what kind of air conditions are coming in. Surprisingly cheap sensor in comparison to other paccar parts. I have a texa computer so it took me right to the problem, but it would come and go until finally it quit reading all together. My software says do not let it sit and idle in cold temps, bump to 900 rpm on the cruise and that will help keep it from happening again sooner.

 

Is this humidity sensor different from the sensor that reads the air temp on the dash?? Where’s this located on the engine?
If yes, would this sensor malfunctioning lead to erratic boosting every time you shift? Like full boost one shift then 25-30 lbs the very next one? Then maybe back up on the next shift? Would it also be possible culprit for the truck tending to run progressively worse the colder it gets??
