Buy a Detroit 12.7 and put it in there. Not gonna speak on legality of that, but tons and tons of people do that.

Yep, that's how you build a glider kit...newer truck, older engine. Fitzgerald (among other glider companies that I can't remember the name of)builds them like that every day. Perfectly legal, in most states. Not sure if the communist commonwealth of California has completely outlawed them or not.

It’s perfectly legal for a glider. But simply putting an old engine into an emission truck doesn’t make it a glider. Technically it’s not legal to put an engine into a newer truck that doesn’t at least match the emission year that came in it.

I wouldn't say volvo is any more dependable. Back when I had my own truck I had The Detroit Diesel warranty for engine that included parts and labor for 600,000 miles. They did all kinds of warranty work on the engine.

If you can get just the bottom end done it should not be to expensive. That all depends on what happened. Mine lost oil pressure at Detroit Diesel in the shop. They did the new bearing and stuff. I ask how much it normal would be not under warranty they said $3,000. Your engine must have really took a dump.

Fitzgerald and the other major glider makers all quit during the last year. The manufacturers aren't making the bodies any more.

He must have broke a rod and punched it through the block.

Only reason I can see for needing a new engine.

Volvo does that too when you run it out of oil.

Just bite the bullet and buy a crate engine and be done with it. Get a factory warranty and rock on. It does suck

Very common on those year engines
Pickup tube oil rings and pan gasket are cheap.
