Try Descent Mode ! I just found out about and had truck for like 9 moths.
You use the regular bakes and slow the truck down to any speed you want for the hill you going down. Then set the engine brake at stage one or two. Here is the fun part. You take your foot off the brakes and set the cruise control.
This will set the Cruse control for the current speed you going downhill. The engine brakes will then automatically switch between different stages 1-3 to hold the truck at the set speed.
It's not the same as setting the Cruise control because normal the cruise control won turn the engine brakes on until 7MPH over the set speed. It works I tried it. It will hold the truck back going downhill at the speed you set. It will even drop a gear if needed.C & C Thanks this. -
My truck has a switch that will change the point where the engine brake will engage if the truck speed exceeds set cruise speed. It can be set to 4 or 7mph (or completely off). I usually just set the cruise to 4mph lower than I want to descend.

Try Descent Mode and you won't have even deal with that.

I don't see how that mode is any different as both methods apply engine brake as needed to maintain speed. I will try it if I remember though.
-
You set the speed you are going and don't have to set the cruise control 4-7 less the speed you want. It less stuff you have to do while driving.

The late 2017's and 2018's have this switch. Previous to that, ti's a computer setting and you have to change it via the computer.
the options are 3mph, 5mph and 7mph -
Descent mode isn't just using the cruise control to use engine speed. it's using the fan, traction control, everything it can even if the truck breaks traction, it's also not using any fuel, ti's only for descents. (i.e. if the hill runs out you will slow down).
Cruise control is using fuel and will let you drift up and out of your range and will of course go into coast mode (which is totally uncool on a big hill)
Cruise control is for regular hills, Descent control is for crappy weather and big hills ( think colorado mountains)Redtwin Thanks this. -
My truck is a '16.

The ####ed up power window switches are what gets me.
