My 96 series 60 will definitely smoke more than new motors when it’s cold (20 and below) when I first fire it up for 30-60 seconds. Single digits and sitting over the weekend it either needs excellent batteries (I change all 4 of mine every 2 years) or a shot an ether (maybe both). Don’t use Lucas or any oil thickening products in the winter as this will make starting more difficult.

Look at putting a diesel coolant heater in it, cold starts become a thing of the past with one, my first year with one installed for winter and I love it, and the motor does to. My c15 always smoked on cold starts now after a couple seconds there is no smoke and goes right to warm idle sound, even when it is below zero and the heater was only run for 2 hours
