Don't forget Cost of bracket Plus cost of antenna Plus cost of coax Plus HOW to run coax. Not much cost difference between the two installation methods but a drastic difference in performance.

    Any luck?

I find it good enough for now with upgraded coax plus antenna. Especially as Clays has cancelled on the mirror mounts.

Sorry I didn't see this until now.

So far I've stuck with the mount that came with my truck. But I did get a 5 foot Firestik II antenna. It's a little longer than the factory antenna, and obviously has the adjustment screw. I don't want to shave the length of my company antenna so I just bought my own.

SWR meter reading about 2.3. that's an actual meter. Not the end of the world, but not where I want it either.

The Cobra 29 built in meter says the SWR is dang near perfect. The needle hardly moves on 1 and 40 LOL. There goes my trust for built in meters!

I've learned a little about SWR and antennas since I started this thread. Now I bought a HAM audiobook I've been listening to and I'm hooked!

That 2.3 SWR is really bugging me. I wish there was a better spot to put the antenna. My 2015 Pete 579 had antennas on both mirrors from the factory. Wish they would have stuck with that. But as I understand, the dual antennas probably aren't the best unless they are 18 feet apart.

Edit: now that I think about it, maybe they weren't in the mirrors. Maybe they were above the windshield.

I'm probably mistaken. I can't find where I read that at.

I've read that the co-phased antennas should be at least nine feet apart for best results on a vehicle. Ideally, they should be 18 or 27 feet apart to reduce the directionality but, of course, that cannot be done on a vehicle.

The 9 feet is for a 1/4 wavelength, which works best with mobile co-phased cb antennas.

Hey folks, I recently purchased a 2016 Peterbuilt 579. My can cubby hole has two runs of coax in it, which I am assuming one is factory and the other is a previous owners, and it has the speaker connector, but I can’t seem to locate the power supply.

Also, is the factory antenna mount behind the sleeper still the best place for it?
