Do not ever trust anyone in this business.. If he was an o/o desperate for quick cash that hood damage could net him in excess of 5k.. So it is possible you were set up.. If it was a company driver then it’s just bad communication.

When I help someone get backed in I communicate with the driver first. I don’t tell them how to turn, etc. I will only stand by in mirror view and let them know to stop with a closed fist. If they don’t understand this then I walk away. If they set up wrong and are completely jacked up I will give my advice on how to set it up.. If they don’t want to do the setup over I walk away.

Even with a spotter get out and access the situation. Relax, take your time and get backed in safely.

Lastly, if Swift keeps you on it will probably be your last chance...

    Trash. Concrete. Dump. Quarry work.

Experience running a large diesel vehicle has lots of potential alternate employment.

Funny, here in SoCal these all pay better than running OTR, Waste Management is paying 22.00 plus OT average 15 to 20 hours OT, Concrete guys are also in the 19.00 to 24.00 dollar per hour range. Quarry drivers are over 30 an hour.
Local Chemical tankers are in the 28 to 30 per hour range.

First rookie mistake a new truck driver makes is they continue to drive like they were in a car. If you can not see what is behind you first rule of thumb is get out and take a look. Otherwise try and get a spotter to help you out while backing up.Other thought is if at all possible avoid having to back up if you can try and do a u- turn or just keep driving.

Cal is on of the easiest states to drive in. Would live anywhere else.

I have been all over it, and glad you like it, but I even tried to live out there years ago, nothing there for this guy, and when they started the carb rules on trucks, I deleted them off my cab card, and never looked back.

hmm, it's very rare anyone has tried to guide me at a truck stop, or anywhere else.

The few times they have I've gotten out and looked anyway if I wasn't sure I wouldn't hit something.

I agree with most of what has been said here but disagree with always looking for the easy spot. As you get more comfortable with backing go for the harder spots, just take your time and get out and look when doing so.

They say the day you stop learning/improving is the day to hang up the keys.
