Thinking of running a deck but not sure what the best setup would be.

    Flat or step

    48' or 53'

    98 wide or 102 wide.

    Spread or tandem

kingpin distance - I think the closest distance to the frt of trailer the best but
    Not sure.

I know there are pros and cons to both but was looking for any input from the vets.
    Thx

I have a 48, theres been a few times when I wish I had a 53 but not to the point where it will make or break me. I would not get 96, that being said, I have only been asked a few times if Im pulling a 96 wide.
how bout a spread that you can slide to run as closed when you want.

Do you run a 48 flat or step and why . . .

    Also - aluminum or steel?

Flat = 48' x 102" spread, front lift axle combo or alum. depending on budget

Step = 51' x 102" spread, rear slide, can locks, combo or alum. depending on budget

Gotta decide WHAT you are gonna haul.....then get the wagon. Lots of variables. What works real good for one guy may be useless for another. A 96" wide will be much harder to sell a few years from now.......there's a reason they are so much cheaper right now.

B&G, I pull a 3 axle all steel step, Im only 5-7 and scared of heights so when I was on top of the flat bed Id freeze and the forklift would have to get me down. J/K, but honestly I didn't like being up there.I liked pulling my flat but like the versatility of a step more, especially the low pro and wanted to start doing more challenging loads.
The flat I started with and still have is a 48x96 only mattered a few times.

I'd be surprised if anyone even offered a 96" these days. Used, they should be a great bargain- with good reason. I wouldn't buy one.

24" pin seems to work for most people and then COG works out to very close to the center of the deck- within 6-8" in my experience- on a 48'.

Whete do you run and what do you haul? If more than 48 feet you pretty much need a rear slider. Western canada wants 72" spread max. They aldo want 102" wide but its not a huge deal for cross border anyways.

    Seems like a toss up.
Talked to a guy from Sammons runnin a 53 and he said he was gettin a 48 cuz he had a lot of problems getting loaded correctly.

Then another guy said 53 best

reason I am asking is I can get a pretty decent deal (5k) on a 1993 transcraft 98or96?wide 48 long alum and wood with all the gear not sure tho about the year (age) being a problem

It's 21 years old.......and a Transcraft.....it should be cheap. Offer them 3500. That way you can do a little fixing that it's sure to need.
