6/18/2025 I-40 shut down near state line due to possible rockslide, flooding

    they built the road on the wrong side of the river.

    engineers said to it on the other side originally.

    They might need to do something like what WA did around Snoqualmie. At one location they built a bridge that left a gap between a major slide area and the road, that way when there is another slide, it slides down and under the bridge and into the lake(or where the lake would be when there isn't a drought)

    National Park Service isn’t playing around..
    They don’t want any trucks using shortcuts to pass through federal land!

    This problem, was caused by powerful politicians back in the day! I think this particular place is the worst, however, there are places all over the federal interstate system, where you can see the results of pleasing, powerful politicians. Interstate 85 does not enter Georgia from South Carolina in the proper place. This was caused by then Georgia governor Ernest Vanderver, who called Lavonia, Georgia home. At some point the I 40 road bed in western North Carolina is going to have to be moved! There is about 10 to 15 miles of interstate 40 that lies on ground that is not geologically sound.
