I would love to see a driverless truck pull a flatbed to load then strap, tarp and deliver that load ...yeah that'll be the day

All they have to do is put a little sensor every third 'turtle' which are the little reflectors glued down on the road. The sensor will communicate with a corresponding sensor on the truck so the truck stays on track down the road regardless of rain/snow, the sensors can see through all that.

What turtle? In MI and NY there are none. I assume all the states that plow regularly don't either. Not every state is California.

And don't say they can add them. Again, the plow will break them off the first snow.

AND the bandwidth dries up when a storm shows up nukes the power and kills the sensors. By flooding, snow etc.

We can have fun with this. What ifs and so on.

Maybe the first good monsoon in season in Phoenix will short the thing out. And that will be that.

They will be below grade of the road driving surface just enough that the plow won't touch them. They can also be solar charged with lights like they do on Snoqualmie Pass.

You mean the roads that have needed to be repaved when I moved to MI 20 years ago and still haven't? How about the bridges that are in so bad shape one can see the river through holes in the deck?
Or even the Mighty Mac that doesn't have pavement, as the deck is steel?

Point is, if infrastructure changes are required for self driving vehicles, it won't happen in my lifetime.

Driverless trucks hit a small market let’s call it Market A, the drivers in market A move to another market called B, causing influx of drivers and rates to drop. New influx of drivers causes rates to Drop in Market B, then driverless trucks slowly start moving into Market B. Drivers from Market B now move into market C, causing even further rate drops.

You see how this can cause issues? Even if a small amount of driverless trucks hit sunny states the drivers in those states will move into other markets.

    That’s how I see it.

first to go is Dry van then reefer.

I recall reading a article some years back where they allowed a robot on the AZ side to cross Hoover under computer control to NV side. This was before the bypass high bridge.

They still needed a human to turn the wheel a little bit when the computer struggled with the outrageous amounts of jacking needed to get around some of those stones downgrade. To me crossing over that thing is not really a big deal, set jake and add room for those rocks and we are across easy peasy.

But if the computer cannot do it best not have them at all.

So you think those people who running from point A to point B , won't be able to haul oversize load? Wich will lead to drop rate and huge competition for 1 load, cause now you have 1000 regular dry van guy on 10 oversize, then it will be 1000 guys who can do oversize...
Was saying last yeah, will continue saying this year , in 2025 most of us will be put of jobs!

I am more interesting why those drivers helping huge corporation to replace them in near future?

    Max Mulsanne Thanks this.
