That is basically why I need it. Started today at 4:00 Am delivered load at 5:00 AM drove to yard and parked at 7:30 AM went into sleeper for 8 Hours so that I could pick up tonight at 7 PM. Have to deliver at 6:00 AM on the 28th.
Have about 16-17 hour drive to deliver load. So that is why I wanted to see how this would work out. Never used 8/2 split and it seems to be somewhat a pain in the ### until you figure it out. lol

So say if you already drove 7.5 you couldn't drive 4 more.Siinman Thanks this. -
So now a new question for you? I did my 8 hours in sleeper and I am coming up on 2 hours in the sleeper at the shipper. Will this start my clock over like I did a 10 hour reset?
-
You don't get the full reset when you do a split.
This is why many get confused. They can't understand how to refigure hours available.Siinman Thanks this. -

Like the others said, you only get back what you didn’t use on the 11. To get it all back you need another 10, which is why it usually isn’t in your favor.

Many times it can be useful. Usually involving time stuck at a customer and peak traffic. Stuck at the shipper for 3 hours getting loaded and then shutdown for the night 3 hours later. Take 8 in the sleeper and get through Chicago before the morning rush for example. Then enjoy a nice 2 hour lunch to get the rest of your 11 back.Siinman Thanks this. -
I use splits alot when I'm running short hauls, long hauls I dont use it nearly as much.
You could just do 8 hour sleepers forever, if it worked in your favor and accommodated the loads. You could run 5.5 hours, sleep 8, run 5.5, sleep 8, run 5.5, sleep 8, etc etc etc but, there is rarely a time that is beneficial.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I could be wrong but i think they say you can never drive more then 11 or work more then 14 on any side of you split sleeper time.
So if drive 8 then sleep 8 you the could drive 3 (11-8) and have 6 (14-8)hour left on your 14 hour clock. If you then drove 3 hour and stopped for another 8 sleeper. It would then be 11-3. So you could drive 8. 14-3 you could work 11 hours. Some thing like that. If want the full 11 and 14 you need to take a full 10 hours off.
