Does it die when coasting if clutch is pushed in? Is it electric solenoid or manual shutoff rod?

Inline pumps have a rack that shuts them down. If it doesnt run out fuel or sieze the only thing thatll shut one down is the rack allowing the barrels to go full spill and kill the injection event.

Whether it is a rack adjustment, a keyway missing from the shutoff lever arm, a worn out clevis or clevis pin, a hung shutoff solenoid or a bad circuit somehow letting the solenoid shut down, i dont know but those are the big issues. I guess a lift pump with a snapped spring could also flow too little fuel to sustain operation at idle speed. It is common in a 6BT for the transfer pump to break a spring inside and still run, just poorly. But ive never had it cause idle failure.

How quick does it die? Slowly or instantly? Can you rev up and save it every time? How hard is a restart after it dies?

Does the truck have a pto with an idle speed knob for rpm? Usually a black handlewheel with a red button in the center. Either under the dash or on floor near driver typically.

I see now those also coulda had a PT fuel system im not so familiar with. @OLDSKOOLERnWV is i believe.

This may be a dumb question. But does it require you to push in the clutch to be able to start it? I know that isn’t the norm on big trucks but I’ve been in a few Penske rentals that you had to do that to start.
If it does then maybe the switch on the clutch is going bad and killing the engine when pushed in after its running. If not than disregard this post. Lol!
