A dramatic turn for the worse

If you've never read any of my barr Nunn threads, let me fill you in.

I've been a barr Nunn driver for almost 2 years (January will be two). I've had my up and downs but have always had a positive attitude toward barr Nunn (look at my other posts for more details).

On my thread "what's your 20" I was logging my adventures this past week, but have been omitting certain things. Not to defraud anyone but I was optimist that things would work themselves out.

This week has been simply a disaster. From loads canceling to loads taking a huge amount of time to get ready (Amazon). So bad in fact that I will miss thanksgiving once again while being with Barr Nunn.

That's not what I'm mad about, surprisingly. I'm upset about the fact how this has been handled.

When I first started with barr nunn, they would have bent over backwards to help drivers out. If you had an issue they would work quickly to resolve it.

No longer. Instead of treating me like a valued co-worker. I was simply dismissed as a whining trucker who "didn't know how trucking worked". (Been a driver for four years). Instead of trying to make me happy (wasn't asking for the moon, maybe a.. Apologie) my team leader insisted that this is how trucking worked and I should "get use to it".

After than statement I told my team leader that instead of getting me home: route to Charlotte so I can turn in my truck. Without hesitation he did.

I later talked with the supervisor of team leaders and to be honest... Was shocked on what I heard. (Parapharsing) "if you have a problem with us that's fine, we can easily hire more drivers..."

What?!? For a company that is begging drivers to get referrals and paying us thousands of dollars to do it... You're going to let a driver who has been with the company for 2 years, 100% on time delivery, go?!

Didn't try to make it right? Didn't try to maybe say "no we don't want you to go, let me try to fix it." Basically all he had to do is show me I wasn't just a number.... He failed.....

I know I'll get nic-picked with trolls but that's fine. Maybe I deserve it, but what a turn for the worse it has been.

Do I recommend barr Nunn? No, they are now just like everyone else.

Barr Nunn is not that large of a company, small companies have their problems too, worked with one that had 50 trucks they were something else

This is one of the main reason I took a credit card 6 years ago and bought my own truck. There are so many companies that crap all over top of the drivers, while the hard working office jockeys that have never driven a truck decide how to run things. Among getting paid better than the drivers with better hours is one of them.

I wish there was more OO out here to give the big money companies some competition

Update:

To those all who replied, thank you! Yes, it's been a few of years sense this happened, and I thought I would at least give an update, because... more or less I'm bored at the present.

I did end up quitting Barr Nunn and it was my last trucking gig. I went back to school for my B.A. and graduated in May. I wanted to be a history teacher (as I received my degree in History) but this industry has a habit of pulling you back in. I now work as a salaried employee for a local truck dealership. Doing better than I ever was in trucking, and I can now provide a better life for me and my wife. (Got married too!, yay!)

Again, just thought I update, and say thank you all for your support. I'll be poking my head in these forums again, but for another reason... customers...

Sorry for your woes.it is becoming more of the norm with the big carriers. I think these things go in cycles. 2 years from now when there are not a million drivers to replace one like yourself and companies are not downsizing you might hear something different. But what probably just happened was they were told to get rid of 500 drivers.

When God delivered the materials to the earth to build, he eliminated the truckers for doing a bad job in the dark.

HE HE HE.

Seriously teasing aside, we are replaceable as long you can find 50 idiots to ride greyhound to your company's orientation every week.

Hearing a company, especially someone in the late 20's or 30's versus me huffing up and saying this is trucking in a property full of luxury tractors... Peacock would not last a day in a 58 white...
