Well it became official today, Jim's last week is next week and he will retire ...another old schooler gone from the ranks but he will be ok .
After that I will move out of my t600 and into a black w900 with a 550 cat and 86 in studio sleeper with matching trailer with remote tarp and air gates .
I actually think the boss is relived as this t600 he bought that I drive while not a bad truck or ugly is loaded with electrical issues that seem to perpetually multiply.
I'll move into Jim's truck and I don't think he will even replace jim and he will just use the t600 on the farm for field to bin work or sell it ...it lives in the shop !
It's never boring here and I think that's what helped lead to my disdain for otr work .
He's always buying and selling hopper bottoms so get to go out of town if I want to to deliver trailers or pick one up ..been out as far as southern Illinois to pick up a trailer or I'm always hauling for other farmers and elevators if nothing to do with his own grain.
It's always interesting and the 5 years I spent at the county road dept has come in handy too with field entrances and rock roads with steep hills .
It's still a job but beats otr all to hell.

As far as the trucking industry is concerned, this industry has gone to hell because general society as a whole has gone to hell…

If i could leave the trucking industry tomorrow, i would. The problem is there’s not too many jobs out there that pay 75-80k with little investment. Growing up dirt poor all my life, 75-80k is a godsend. I’m by far not the most productive person at my company. I probably pull 30-32k miles a quarter on average, a lot less than @zodiacflyer or @DonRobbie does, which i’m perfectly fine with. There’s probably drivers who clear 6 figures at this company but i have no interest in that. Ryan got all up in arms when he started getting the mileage I usually run, because he used to run 40k miles a quarter, which in my opinion is working too hard. I’m perfectly happy with where i am and what i’m making for now, which is what matters at the end of the day. I don’t rock the boat either. 5-10 years down the road, this will probably change. I’m not spending 3-4 weeks on the road for the next 40 years.

Fine you a good private fleet like I did years ago. Work about 5 days a week with weekends off. Still make 80K plus. You might have to get up in the trailer and dance with a dolly a bit but it won’t kill you. You may have to move out of Salina to find it but those jobs are out there.

Try hauling fuel. It’s gravy work and usually home everyday. Can also find some regional fuel haulers pretty easily. Maybe try and get on with farmers oil or accord. Big rides and decent money.

Most of the time pulling a bottle wouldn’t be bad. Living in Salina he’s in a good spot to do Enid to Aurora transfers for Koch. The bad part would be during anhydrous season when you don’t see your house for about 6 weeks and you’re HOS exempt. The paychecks would be good but you’d probably be pretty tired of sitting in the truck all day every day.

Until the trucking industry wants to pay otr drivers with 38 years accident free and spotless mvr and no bad inspections what it's really worth they can kiss my ### goodbye !
I like running paved county roads and even better is miles of gravel as the dust Flys! Grossing 86000 lol ....not fast of course but it's cool .

Pretty soon you’ll be haul’n log’n or pipe line equipment somewhere in the middle of Wyoming — there is another world out there that’s way less F’d up as… never mind
