I would like to know what your experience was like with your new entrant safety audit. I know each state handles it differently, but wanted to get an idea are they super anal and expect you to have a PhD in everything related to running a mega fleet or were they lax and asked basic questions and gave you the green light?
A topic I rarely see discussed, how was your new entrant safety audit?

I've talked to a few guys about them. Either they never had it done, or they had to send in their paperwork and have it checked. The auditors told them a list of things they were doing wrong, told them to change up and they would check back and they never heard from them again. Some states are different I'm sure though

Any idea what they did wrong? Like blantely obvious common sense stuff or super minor no one cares but they jump on you about stuff?

South Dakota, was really simple, sent in the required documents, he went over maintenance record requirements, asked if he could answer any questions with no penalties and awhile later I was granted permanent authority !

I never spoke with the auditor. I paid $150 to a local consultant to handle the audit for me. I sent the requested documents to the consultant, and everything was handled.

My PAPUC and federal audits both went easy without a problem. They were just checking basic paperwork that has to be in place and proper for all carriers. Logs in order, maintenance and inspection records, equipment and driver lists, drug test consortium and pre employment test.
There are various checklists available online to help prepare for it. My PAPUC audit was done on location. Federal was also conducted by PAPUC, but they wanted the paperwork faxed in for that and both audits were essentially exactly the same. Certainly not something I'd stress over too much. -
Letter from fmcsa in DC. Sent in requested paperwork. Six - seven weeks later a letter from GA compliance officer. By email she requested more paperwork and numbers. About 5 weeks after that I got an email stating that I passed.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.
