Man, I applied for an ABF job, interviewed almost 3 weeks ago, and still waiting for HR to clear me. The terminal manager is dying for drivers and has had his last 11 applicants denied. Dunno wtf is taking so long, if the job wasn't such a good opportunity I would have accepted another job by now this wait is crazy.

Wait... I thought the TM does the hiring? How can his applicants be denied if he is the one looking for bodies? My TM hired me directly. Shook my hand and did the "welcome aboard" and everything.

The TM normally do the interviews, but my interview at ABF was with a hiring agent and not the terminal manager himself. The hiring guy wants to get you the job, heck he even told me what to correct before he would submit the application. I know at CWF and YRC I met with the TM's themselves. They do major backround checks and HR can say no go though

Yeah, our TMs seem to have waaaay more power when it comes to the hiring process. But then again, they assume all the risk if they have a lapse in judgment when giving a rookie driver a chance to run local. I pinched a trailer on my rocky set I was pulling on day #2. They should have just canned me. The guy was nice enough to give me a job and even nicer to let me KEEP it. I've been on my absolute best behavior and pissing excellence each day I come to work since then.

    KF7WTV and CenutryClass Thank this.

The TM took my application and interviewed me but my application and background checks have to go through HR before I can be hired.

Yea human resources have the last say. Since ABF is very well known they will be fussy. To bad you aren't by a YRC hub. They are hiring road guys, pretty much if you have a beating pulse they will take you

Well, I had my interview last week and I think it went well. At first I thought I may never hear from them so I showed up to the terminal in person unannounced to inquire about my application. I spoke to the secretary for the linehaul manager and she scheduled an interview for me. One of my former employers told me that they called today to verify my employment there. I guess all is going according to schedule. They said I should hear back from them in 2-4 weeks.

    road_runner Thanks this.
