I'm just now getting into trucking and as you've probably seen from my fitness post, I have quite a few newbie questions.

Another interesting topic or question I wanted to ask about is Hotel Points.

Obviously you guys get shower credits and points from buying fuel.

However, is there anything out there that lets you rack up Hotel Points while traveling if sleeping in your cab? Any kind of travel rewards?

This would be interesting to know so after long weeks on the road, you could use points to take the kiddos and family on vacations?

All the major hotel chains have branded/sponsored credit cards that give points each month, which can in turn be used for free stays once you reach a particular level.

A lot of hotels give discounts to CDL holders.

But, once you get used to the cozy confines of your very own rolling closet, you’ll lose all interest in hotels. Especially once you master the built in George Foreman smokeless grill!

You're allowed about $67 a day per diem deduction from your income tax every night You're away from home.

It's capped at around $7K. So that's $7K you get to take off your taxes, with no receipts, even if you don't spend a penny on a room or a hot meal, if you sleep in the truck.

Now you do need to be out of town. This is verifiable with your log book.

    Honestly I don't know. I'm an O/O so I'm self employed.
Just like I get 20% off the top. You'd need to ask your tax professional.

    Google "Transportation Industry Per diem"
You can find the IRS information there.
