Jesus. Are you serious? If I’m permitted for 14 and the load isn’t over 14 and the bridge is 13’9. I stop! Call the cops. Drop my airbags etc. no way am I moving without guarantees.

Well - happened this week to a buddy on a tandem load.

Your answer was nowhere near near to the solution.

My name is not Hay Zeuss either. You can call me Mr. Blair out of simple respect, and -

You're still in this hypothetical situation without an answer.

    So answer it.

    Add to that question - you're extended in length and it's a railroad underpass - you're 100' long overall . . . it's the reverse of a 'high center' - now it's a low center.

Construct a complex system of ropes and pulleys that simultaneously raises the bridge and compresses the load. I mean I only need one inch, right? ;)

    A more serious answer -

First thing first is I'm pretty sure my atlas lists all bridges under 14 feet. Not positive, because I've never hauled anything over 13'6", but that would be my first step - checking the permitted route against any and all information accessible to me before starting.

Second thing, stop as far back as I safely can and get my triangles out. Call police non emergency and explain the situation. Contact my permit person (or the IL state employee if I pulled the permit myself). I believe I would need permission to move off the permitted route.

Next I would be measuring the bridge to see if the bridge is marked wrong and if I would clear each span - left right and center. Additionally I would be seeing if I can lower the ride height of the trailer.

By that point Permit Person will hopefully have an explanation for why they screwed up and a solution to their screw up. Most likely it will involve police presence to back how ever many miles to the nearest place to turn around.

Finally, I would be scheduling some time to manically hug my teddy bear while sobbing about life choices.

Look, if Ceaser can bridge the Rhine in 10 days then I can use some vinyl cord cordage and a few snatch blocks to make some space. I mean, how hard do you think it is to defy the laws of physics?
