Agreed to rate confirmation but still search for loads until dispatched?

I'm still relatively new as an 0/0 and still working on the process, but have noticed.....

There are a few brokers who have a relatively high rate of cancelling loads even after the rate con was sent. (most never/rarely cancel) It makes me think that some of these brokers say, ok, I got the load covered for X , let me see if I can get it covered lowered increasing their profit and then cancel on me if they find it.
    Is that common?

So do you guys keep looking for loads trying to find a better deal until you get dispatched? And if you find a better one before dispatched, how do you handle it with the first rate con (but no dispatch?) I don't want to burn bridges or put someone in a bind if they are straight up with me, but if they are unscrupulous.....

I've always been, if I agree to it, I'll do it, but without a heads up from broker that there may be a delay, if have to wait for the dispatch more than several mins after rate agreed rate con, I start looking again just to cover my bases to keep truck/driver from sitting.

Yes - it's frustrating. It's nice to have a small number of agents that you can trust to work with -

I normally wait 10 minutes for the rate con, an effective agent should have it to you in that timeframe, then keep looking.

I don't have time for the whole "Let me call the shipper, let me call the receiver, let me call . . . "

They either have the load or don't.

I never cancel unless an emergency happened. Because of few bad agents you can ruin your reputation as a carrier, just wait 10 minutes, call and ask for the confirmation. If you don't get it again, call and say that you are sorry, but if you don't get it within 5 minutes, you will have to get another load.

Seems like most of the ones who do that are one and done kind of loads, if they don't cancel you, anyway. You'll run across legit people who don't play those games if you run the same lanes all the time. You will even have people randomly call and say something along the lines of "I see you posted out of ....... all the time and I have these loads...." Those are the kind who probably don't play the games. They have real freight and are making a real effort to take care of it. Those are the kind you want to work with, if the rate is agreeable of course.

if i say i'll do a load i do the load. and yes it is routine to have a better load fall in your lap after accepting a load.

but my word is my bond, and thus i have a reputation of doing what i say i will do.

anything less than that and you're no better than the leeches swimming in the bottom of the barrel.

in answer to question, yes, some brokers will pull loads because someone cheaper happened by. it's not hard to figure out which ones do this. often its the same ones that will ask me to give an already booked load back for their "better" one.

I have a friend who is an agent for a large brokerage. He always tells me his worst fears are truckers taking a load and then calling off leaving him high and dry. Then there is brokerages who book with somebody then shot for a cheaper truck and the infamous "load is cancelled" nonsense. Too little integrity on both sides leads to very poor business relationship. I love the guy who says "my word is my bond". I operated that way for over 40 years and served me well

If I agree to take it, I will take it, but after 20 minutes I let them know I'm going to have to be going else where soon. The load I have on now, I soooo wanted to cancel because For one, there was one that came up paying better but landed me a bit further than where I wanted, in the end I would have made more. Secondly, they started taking a bit to long and it had been 30 minutes. (that's packet and RC). I felt like they where hoping for a different carrier to come along because I got them for $250 more than they were offering. I was just anxious to get a load heading home because there is an issue at the house I need to tend to.

So far I have never canceled or been canceled on. When one does cancel on me I will write there name/company down and will not have an issue canceling on them if I ever decide to do business with them again.

Of course I have a relatively small number of companies I deal with, and try not to add to many more unless something comes up or a load pays well. I also don't deal with brokers that dispatch, which seem to be the one that are carriers as well and I feel like your hunting other trucks before the dispatch happens so you can say sorry load canceled. I don't drive for your trucking company, you don't dispatch me, when we do the RC that is truck ordered and I tell them that. If it's FCFS I will tell you when I will be there and I will be there.
