and us old farts as parents started the downhill trend, with the "Kids are people too" movement.

one must reason with a child and not spank, ect, ect.

DR Spock's book on child rearing in the 70's. that was only good for swatting the brats on the butt!

my psychology classes in college taught all the stuff.

and now these are the kids of the children brought up on those theories.

and, no, my kids were not raised on those ideas. lol

I still cringe at the sound of my own belt pulling out of the loops.

Parents are quick to claim “it takes a village to raise kids” but get but hurt when the village disciplines them.

I hate eating indoors anymore. It’s either a constant loud yelling screaming kids or idiot kids…

One of the biggest issues that I see is too many of these parents want to be their kids friend instead of being their parent… Frankly, if your kid is never getting mad at you, you’re not doing your job as a parent

In college local Hardee’s had problems Friday/Saturday nights. Group of kids, small order,t here for hours getting free refills, nobody else wanted to be there.
I got hired as Security thru company I worked for in college. Worked myself out of that job in less than a hour.
Got female manager to go into men’s room with me. Collected liquor bottles *hid* in false ceiling. Carried them out, poured them out, tossed loudly in trash. Had one kid act up, toss a punch, put him against wall, booted him for 2 weeks. Then read newspaper rest of night. Long as reasonably quiet, not sharing refills with entire table… they got a half hour. After that a polite. “Are you planning to order more or can we have this table wiped down?” Next week nothing. Maybe remark. “You look rather young to have alcohol in plain sight in your car? Best you put it in trunk of Police might stop, arrest you. Then your folks have to come get you, pay for car out of impound”
Third week they told me they were canceling contract. Just giving one of Staff bit more to keep things moving. I learned you can do a job too well.

    None of this is new.
If you read Ray Kroc's autobiography:
    https://www.amazon.com/Grinding-Out-McDonalds-Ray-Kroc/dp/0312929870
    or the movie: The Founder

Drive-in restaurants at the time were magnets for this riff-raff. think Rebel Without a Cause.

He describes how the original McDonalds premises were structured in 1955.
Originally didn't have anywhere to sit at all.
No pay phones on the property.
Managers were expected to "police" the lot in more ways than one. Clean up the trash, but take note of the cars that were hanging around and get rid of them.
Parking lots were designed to discourage the practice.
Police were called on loitering types. And would ticket the burnouts etc.

Of course, everything in society is completely different now. I will bet in that same Fairfax Virginia, if you go into a drug store, the most valuable merchandise is behind locked cabinets. Cops don't respond to shoplifting or other "minor" quality of life issues.
We have given up an awful lot on our way to an uncivilized society.
