Hey everyone, im going to add my " rant " about all state career school. if you have read the above post you will no that i am a student, well, i guess at this point i would be concidered a graduate, i still have to take my state skills test and my 108-n-air brakes test. and tm, tuesday im going to take my state rd cdl test.
about my rant for the school:
as of thursday 3-6-08, that was my last day of school, all week last week my instructor, we'll just call him "X" told me i could take my state 108-air brakes- and skills test, well, all week, there were no trucks available to take the test, so i couldnt take the test, so on thursday, being that it was our last day, a bunch of us went to lunch, and "X" told us to come back after we go to lunch, so myself and a nother student went back to take the test, to dicover that a t.v show was using the offical cdl range to film some crap, dont no what it was, and dont care what it was, all i no is that it was an inconvience to myself and the other student, so "X" told us to come down monday ( today ) morning and he could test us out for out 108, airbrakes and skills, well, today I show up to find out that he didnt show up for school today, cause he was " sick ", well, since i started on the range roughly 3 months ago, i have noticed that "X" misses a lot of monday's, and there are SEVEN ( 7 ) state examiners at the school to test students for the state test, i go to the office to " rant " to a higher up, and all she could do was aplogize to me and my fellow class-mate, which realisticly thats all she could do, but realisiticly thats besides the point, minus "X" that leavs 6 others to fill his posistion, did it happen, of course it did not!!!, i drove roughly 30 miles EACH WAY! just to find out i would not test out today, now 4 days after my graduation date!!!
sorry, im just a lil tiked off,
However, on a lighter note, tm, tuesday, 3-11-09 ill be taking all 3 parts of my test, best of luck to me, and no "X" will not be testing me out,
--------- As far as attending All State Career School, i would recomend this school for trainning, and on the same hand i wouldnt recomend it,
the reason i say both is because i went throught six- 6 months of traninning, and im not going to lie to anyone, some of it was nothing but a boat load of crap, but as far as some of the material was, it was great, we learnd a lot, a lot that you would not learn at a 4 week " cdl mill "
the only thing i can say is that you have up untill day 41 to change your mind and get most, if not all of your money back, after day 41, what you pay, is what you loose, this is the type of place that throws a lot of ####akie in your heard for no real reason.
go do it, see for yourself,
I WILL SAY THIS MUCH!, if you dont think truck driving is for you, do not make the commitment of paying all that money and not finish, i saw it happen a lot of times at my school, dont do it, you'll only hurt yourself financhialy, im serious, make sure its the path that you want to take!.

to add to this, a lot of students in larger classes arent getting the number of road trips they were promised upon signing. there is a lot going on at this school that is not good. theyre so busy enrolling students that the classes are becoming too large for them to accommodate with enough trucks

*Update*
Well I'm 4.5 months into their 6 month program, I called over 120 companies, and EVERY single one said no to me. The director of career services I believe knew of the trouble I was having and that I was thinking about dropping out due to my inability to get a job. I also am aware that when enrolling in a school, if a criminal record or mental/physical issue is keeping you from employment, the loan is void. She called me up yesterday and said hey I found you a job with F&R Leasing. I said ok, can I call them and find out what it pays etc... She said I don't think that's a good idea I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with the guy.. What kind of place wouldn't allow me to talk to this "company" that said they would hire me? This school is absolutely the shadiest place on earth.. -
Hey Opi and Soon2Be, Thanks for the insight into AllState. I may have to rethink my decision. I'm currently in the computer field and I've reached my breaking point but, I can't just quit and go full time to earn my CDL, I have a family to support. I was hoping to goto AllState at night and still work fulltime during the day.
Have you talked to anyone or do you know how the conditions of the night classes the Lester AllState campus are?
TIA -
Hey Ram, just a few things id like to tell you. I have recently started with a company, a really good company. and here is what i have to say. taking everything i said, and it all being true, i still stand by everything i have said here. however, based on the training that i went through with this company, with a nother student that went to a 4 week school. i would only every recomend All State to ANYONE that was intrested in a CDL, seriously. the difference between me and the 4-weeker is like night and day. they offered me a short line position with the company based on what they saw from me from my training.
listen, yes there is a lot of bull #### that goes on in that school, but you are seriosly thinking about going to school, do your self a favor and go to all state. it will only benifit you in the long run, u get treated better by ur company, and other drivers, trust me, I NO!
let me no what you decide, and best of luck 2 you -
Thanks Soon2Be -
I'm not too worried about the classroom and book part, but more concerned about the seat time promise not being met. Congrats on landing with a good company and when you mention "short line position" (still new to the lingo) does that mean local runs?
Also I read you did the M-T schedule, was that day or night?
TIA -
Hey Ram, thanks, i did the day time class, 8-1, it wasnt bad, i had a job, it worked out pretty good,
Short Line, is not local, its more then local, but less then OTR(=Over The Road) i run during the week, im home every weekend, and im off on all the Major Holidays, pretty good if you ask me, now, dont get to excited, cause most companines require at least 6 months expr. i just happen to fall into a good gig, but im taking my time, and takin it slow, i dont wanna mess this up at all.
ok Ram, well, i just got home, and i wanna get some good night sleep in my own bed!
keep me/us posted on how you do, and what you do, and always check this site out for everything that you wanna no, its on here, and if its not here, post a question and youll get a good reply -
Little update, our class of 9 people are 4 weeks out from graduating, we're supposed to get 14 roadtrips in order to graduate... I took the weekend class so I'm only there 2 days a week...Do the math, 8 days, 14 roadtrips for 9 people? not going to happen... I did learn a lot at this school but I will NEVER recommend it.

Lol...i go to Allstate now...i'm on the range...what the problem with Allstate is...they need to have instructors that's going to go from the book...yea...but also go and talk about how it is and what they been through on the road...Dave in the mornings is BORING...so there for...being in class for 10 weeks makes you think twice about being a trucker...but all the other instructors are out going...and fun to talk too and fun at teaching...you can kinda tell who is boring and who is outgoing just by greeting yourself and asking simple questions about the course...the instructor i had for 4 courses out of 5 was Will...he was fun...outgoing...gave examples of things he did...he made it fun to go to school...but Dave tells lies...he'll say #### that's IMPOSSIBLE...like..."yea i hauled a trailer from NY to florida wit no king pin"...so you would really have to i would say...try out maybe two different classes to see who you have more fun with...or ask the students what is the best class to be in...my opinion...i would say i wish the school was shorter...6 months kinda is a long time...but during the 6 months it gives you time to think about what you'll be doing for the rest of your life...if i knew what i did now...i would of just called a company and went to they training for my CDL and be working by now...but i didn't know what i do now...

ill add this to this thread, ive been out of that school now for 5 months and theyve done nothing to help me find employment. career "services" sends me a where are you working letter every now and then, and coffee joe calls me once in a while, hes the only one that seems to give a ####. i hate that place, i hope one day i get enough money to go after them.. apparently all the ######## lies regarding my ONE stupid felony when I was 18 are showing now that no companies will touch me with a perfect driving record, solid work history in business management, oh and a felony thats 5 years old. the school is a crock of #### dont waste your money
