Alright Boppers (quick trivia what 1979 film was the term "boppers" used in?)
Here is the situation. I have a big hotel stop first thing Tuesday morning it is a dock stop, but that doesn't mean a whole lot and I am looking for suggestions on how to make the stop go more efficiently?

Here is the situation big hotel down town Cleveland drive into the parking garage and blindside back into the dock okay that's done now here's where it gets interesting, dock plates don't work, there both broke and busted, product not on pallets today I had 404 cases coming off the truck at this particular stop. It took me oh I don't know simple math wise 3 hours 404 cases 8600lbs. All unloaded with a 2 wheel hand truck. Product also goes to 8 different places very confusing stop. They do have one of those dock plates you can move, but it's chained to a railing and the dock it belongs to just so happens to have a roll off construction dumpster parked in it.

Now here's what I'm thinking instead of just using the hand truck why not look around and use a flat truck or I suppose I could use my fold down dolly, a flat truck would kind of be best figure even if I have to handle the stuff twice, the flat cart could probably hold the equivalent of oh gee 4 wheeler loads so in one movment I just did 4 wheeler loads, okay I had to unload the stuff which I am not a fan of I understand that, but making roughly 64 trips back and fourth to the truck doesn't seem to be much better. If I could I would grab a pallet and pallet jack and load like all of house keepings stuff up on one pallet and boom one trip house keeping is done. Then load the main kitchen and the other stuff on a pallet and boom one trip that's all done. I mean geeze 1 pallet is equivalent to gee what 7 8 wheeler loads.

I don't know there's more then one way to skin a cat it doesn't take that long to unload a convertible hand truck and there are stops I use a convertible hand truck on just because it takes less time to unload the fold down then it does to ride the elevator down and all that other jazz?

Alright I'm stepping out for a bit, but I can't wait to see what you guys have to say.

#1-pallet with pallet jacks is your best options(only use if its a freight elevator. regular elevator, pallets dont fit). #2- stack everything on elevator at same time using 2 wheeler(dont know how many elevators you use).

so I assume that you put your ramp onto the dock? so you just wheeled out from your truck into the dock? That's where I would start.

of, if you have a liftgate, typically you can put the gate all the way up, make it straight out then back in, then flip the little portion onto the dock. Done that quite successfully too. (although you want to back up really slow or you bend the liftgate.

I NEVER use the U-boat (convertible). Only the stupid restaurant people use it, the smart and fast ones use it as a two wheeler and I NEVER use it. I don't even bring it on routes that are all hand unload. I'm not paid to handle it twice and even with a slow elevator it's still faster to load up a good sized load and wheel it in. and i"ve noticed I"ve gotten much better at building big two wheeler loads that don't fall apart and I can get off the two wheeler.

That rate seems pretty reasonable to me. 200 to 250 cases an hour when you can just zip in and out from the pallet to the unload spot. (hand loaded). Half that waiting for elevators, etc. So 100 to 150/hour seems about right.

At this stop we don't put our ramp to the dock we just bump it right off the trailer on the two wheeler. The other problem is they get a lot of goods that are not very durable like 4 gallons of milk in a cardboard box. There's not a ton of elevator time so it's okay in that regard, but it is just a lot of cases once it's unload the trailer has all kinds of room in it.

Rate of Pay, those specialized trucks will cost you more. Sooo, your owner before accepting the load, read thru a description of the freight and knowledge of the delivery site, took the order due to your truck will work too, only not driver friendly. However, darn nice paying gig. (so, dont mess it up, be happy while on site)

    Late to the thread.

I wouldn't even of messed around with a hand truck or pallets . Would of found Maintenance or Custodial Personnel used their Mobile 4 wheeler tubs used for cardboard waste ( clean ) and piled cases in it. Threw some lunch money there way.... Saving my body for $20 is worth it. Still shouldn't be that way or should have to pay them to receive there crap. Hotel has to get there junk fixed no doubt about it.
