Working on polishing some aluminum. I added some before and after pictures. Tanks are pretty rough, so will need some more work, but coming along. The one issue I'm having is getting rid of the black residue while I'm polishing. Using Zephyr polishing wheels and rouge. Have watched some videos and those guys make it look easy.
Aluminum polishing and what to use on these tanks?

Most videos have them starting with a nicer surface.
That tank needs sanded down, then, flashed with acid to clean the pores, before polishing. However, with the amount of sanding it’ll take, you may end up with a really thin tank.
This is a piece where I removed casting flash and polished. You can see the progression, from left to right, and the final piece. Yes. That is a reflection of the sky.
A couple alloy bolts.
Stainless tubing.

Are you for hire!? Unbelievable work!bryan21384, ducnut, hope not dumb twucker and 1 other person Thank this.

Do you have the tanks off? Tanks are much easier for me to polish on the floor than having to deal with straps and minimal room to work. Especially if they are really roughLast Call, ducnut and skallagrime Thank this.

Was just going to recomend that, and also you can see if its even worth polishing or straight up replace (or at least patch)
-
And, if you decide it will be to much work to get them mirror finished, Roadsknz has some mirror polished stainless tank wraps you can put on… not sure on price
-
Times 2 on that. Well done.

Looks like you'll need some sanding.
To me - it's easier to pay a GOOD guy to sand and polish them the first time (and yours look rough) - then just maintain them.
Kudos to you for giving a darn too - I always appreciate metal that is kept well, regardless of brand/color etc.Diesel Dave, bryan21384 and ducnut Thank this.
