I have been interested in Werner trucking company, I am new to the scene, just fresh out of trucking school. I would be interested in any insight or opinions on companies...I have seen a lot of negative feedback on several of the companies I had considered. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Am new to the trucking scene, interested in some insight...

what school did you get out of? did you get any recruiters come here?

Plenty of info on Werner here. The good, bad, and ugly. Not much good that I have read but same goes for any company that would be interested in hiring you. But you have to start somewhere and luckily the info you seek is already here. Search "Werner" and watch your computer get real busy for a minute.
One thing you'll find, ask ten truck drivers their opinion about one thing and you'll more than likely get twelve answers. -
I attended Tri Area Trucking School of Freeland Michigan. No there was no recruiters waiting in the wings. I had sent applications to Swift, Stevens, Prime, Covenant, US Xpress, and Werner. I was pre-approved by all.

Welcome to the forum. You will find a lot of information here. Like was said, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Keep in mind you will probably read more bad than anything else because many who are happy with their company don't post that kind of information (often because they are too busy driving and making money). This site should be just one part of your research. Go to local truck stops and talk to drivers who are currently driving for the company(ies) you are interested in. See what they have to say.
Best thing to remember is that no one company will suit everyone. When reading the comments on here, throw out the worst (because those stories most likely have more fiction than fact) and throw out the best (every company has some problems) and look at the middle ground. Same when you talk to drivers at the truck stop. Keep in mind that truck drivers are infamous for embellishing stories; kind of like fishermen.
Good luck to you in your research and decision. -
All i want to know is who is the less of two evils out there. Its not easy for anybody in this day because of hard economic times, I my self worked for 23 years with the same company and am on my fourth lay off, this one looks like a lengthy one and have decided to make this Currier change.
I've been a volunteer firefighter for 15 years and EMT for two and thought about taking more classes to become full time but believe it or not the pay isn't that great.
anyway thanks again for the in-site.. -
But you will find that most of the training companies are for just that... training. Once you get a year or two in. There are better paying jobs to be had.
The companies you listed above are all pretty big.It is easy to fall thru the cracks at bigger companies.
It also depends on how long you want to stay out.And how much hometime you wanna have. Good Luck!!PBROAD Thanks this. -
Of the list you mentioned, I would say the best for training (just getting the experience you need) may be Werner. I don't know much about the others. The biggest delay at Werner is getting your trainer. After that they have a pretty decent training program. Not gonna make the big money there, which is why a lot of drivers move on from there once they have enough experience to go somewhere else that suits their personal needs more. This is why Werner and Swift are commonly called "training companies" by a lot of drivers! US Xpress would be difficult to move from. They have all automatic transmissions, while MOST companies do not. This makes it very tough to go somewhere else.
Haev you looked at Schneider? They are a good company by all accounts. My brother started there and loved it. (He lost his medical certification or he would still be a "pumpkin driver".) -
good info kingson
pbroad, Schneider is currently not taking students. That may or may not change soon. I have heard through the grapevine that they will be assembling an occasional group of prospective students to go through the program every so often in Green Bay. Give them a call and see what they have to say. -
stay away from covenant:
.....or you may end up going:smt071!
PBROAD Thanks this.
