What’s that saying? “If it wasn’t for bad luck, you’d have no luck”

I think following @Bumper into retirement is a distinct possibility, at least retiring from trucking. I am truly getting sick and tired of this whole industry and the direction it is heading. Next year I will hit my official 30 yr anniversary of sitting behind the wheel...I think it might be time to throw in the towel. I had hoped to get to my 4m mile mark, but I am not sure I have the patience or the desire to be in this game another 2 or 3 years.

I may be wrong, but your previous Wylie experience is totally different than what is happening now isn't it? Moore was sinking and Wylie absorbed them and you were forced to join or leave. SPD isn't going anywhere, they're simply aligning sister companies under the corporate banner. I think you're comparing apples to footballs when you mention your past experience.

Ask those of us who worked for Gordon during the Heartland Express transition......they cashed the big checks and were gone in a flash.

Woke up this morning and for the first time in a very very long time I did not care what day it was or did not count how many days off I had left before I had to leave again. It was a good feeling.

That is my opinion as well. We just went through this with roadmaster group. Almost nothing changed for the drivers. A decent amount change for the office staff but everything I’ve heard is it been an improvement. We upgraded our 15 year old dispatching software To the newest version, changed our shop software to a much more user-friendly version, and updated our maintenance program. We also sold off a bunch of old trailers that were just sitting around not even being used.

You guys are basing it on speculation, I am basing it on experience. When Daseke infused cash in Moore, it wasn't just because they needed the newer equipment. They did it because they knew they were gonna merge them into We-lie, and didn't want We-lie's financial balance sheets to bear the burden of the cost. Same here. Do you think that Daseke is just being generous and giving SPD $25m to buy equipment more Wylie compatible to be nice because Wylie has so much excess freight to haul they need us to help? If you believe that, I would like to talk to you about some prime ocean front property just west of Phoenix. The video Chubby put out yesterday was very similar as to the one Moore put out right before the merger. "We're excited" and "the synergy of the two companies"...mark my words, 12-24 months from now, SPD will be part of Wylie. From a Daseke perspective, what makes more sense, 2 profitable companies dipping into the same freight pool, in competition, or one bigger company dipping into that same freight pool. The wing division and the Otis fleet will probably just be divisions of Wylie like their glass and the Case equipment fleets.

This is all speculation from an experience at a sinking company. I’ve been through something just like this here at SPD, that by every metric we have access to is not struggling. We just went through this with RMG, and as far as I know my door still says SPD.

As for the 25million for new trailers, who knows what all the reasons behind that is. You may not know this, with the exception of the 80 new roll tarp trailer we bought last year, we haven’t had new trailers in 6 plus years. Most of our specialized trailers are 8+ years old. We did buy a few 48’ trailers for elevators, and a handful of 53’ flats with sliding tandems as a test, but nothing on a large scale. This is all moot, if we do get rolled into Wiley, they would assume all of our debts anyway.

What I do know for a fact is that a few weeks ago they ordered me a brand new truck, and just today they announced they basically doubled the OD pay. I’ll have to put pen to paper tonight but I believe that’s close to a $10k raise for me.

every thing else is just speculation.

Not bad for 2 out of 4 states limiting me to less then the speed limit. BA52285C-5356-4F88-A59E-D293E59ABF6C.jpeg

The trailer money confuses me... they're supposedly a financially stable company, but don't set aside enough funds to purchase new trailers and equipment so they have to get it from Daseke? Maybe they aren't as good with their money as people think.

I managed 500 miles today. Left just before dawn, ended 20 min after sunset(allowed 30 over). With how crappy this POS Volvo pulls, even with a normal load 640-650 will be a challenge.

Told dispatch to take me off the OD #### list. The little extra they pay is not worth the hassle in my opinion.
