I thought about you guys the other day, a I was delivering in MN and a Lonestar truck was working on removing their tarps ahead of me. At first I thought the driver was working with a trainer, man this guy was morbidly overweight and really could do nothing himself.

I ended up untarping and putting away my chains, my binders, my tarps. And this dude was still having his truck worked on! I ended up going over and helping remove the nailed in boards and talked to what I assumed to be his trainer only to find out it was actually one of the drivers for the customer! He did everything for this dude, and in the end only paid him $10 - I would have Vemo’d the dude $50 lol.

If your onwership is this desperate for drivers then wow, just wow. That man was 63, with two blown knees - no way should he have been flatbedding. We have to take a mobility test before we can get cleared to work, I really felt for the guy and hope he at least stays safe…and I hope when the time comes ya’ll find a good place to land.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you guys haul a lot of specialized aircraft stuff? Stuff that's really delicate or fragile, or easily damaged?
If SPD starts losing drivers will the learning curve of new drivers hauling that specialized stuff wind up costing them damaged freight, hauls, and maybe contracts.?

Yes we do haul aircraft parts and service the aerospace industry. That being said a lot of our loads looks like this. 84BF294C-0FB8-4C09-86FD-4F9161FB7EDF.jpeg 60018066-0068-4F90-848B-60951A8866ED.jpeg DD4D3B32-016C-4C3E-B619-2409BE42FC36.jpeg 6EA4CAF7-FEC7-43C1-91B0-6042DD93B883.jpeg E1141AFB-06C5-458F-9F9F-097608AABEF9.jpeg pretty basic flatbed loads.

Also with all the rumors about people quitting, I only know of one person quitting or putting their notice in. And he’s the kind of guy that gets happy feet, he’s already quit and come back once, and has 10+ jobs on his resume.

I think if that starts happening, they will have the onboarding dispatchers ask new hires for pictures of their load and securement just to verify they are up to speed. I mean, I had little, if any, real world flatbed securement other than glass and I have had 0 driver caused freight claims...but I have a lot of time on the road where I wanted to go to open deck, so I paid attention to how others secured loads, so I at least had a clue how it should look when it was done.

Well, I am still yo-yo-ing with this respiratory crap. Not as bad as I was a couple weeks ago, but still not anywhere near 100%. I went to my doctor who ran the whole respiratory panel for viruses and bacteria, including that RSV kids are catching, and 2 COVIDs...1 and 2 (covid-1 is the common cold)and everything came back negative. The only positives I had were for a couple of antibiotic resistant virus strains related to MRSA(mersa) which I had back during my 1st time with Crete 15 or so years ago and will have in my system for life. Other than that, I just have a lot of intermittent chest congestion. She said there is something going around that a lot of people have caught, but it isn't deadly. Hopefully it isn't a new import from our friends in Wuhan.

As I hoped, I got my Monday load. I pick up in Ladson, SC (737 air inlets) going to Kent, WA. Another long, light load, so I hope WY is behaving itself next week.

I have the same stuff going on with me for the last 4 months. Goes away for awhile then comes right back. I was just tested for strep and covid and all came back negative.

I hope it doesn't hang on that long for me...I've had it about 6 weeks. Felt pretty good at the doctor's office, but yesterday it wore me out going to Lowe's to shop for a new mail box.

    D.Tibbitt, Old_n_gray and dwells40 Thank this.
