Yes but since you do not have to wait the 4 hours+ at a shop to have it fixed you benefited yourself more by fixing it yourself. Your 'extra' pay is time. Nothing more valuable.

And with that extra time I get something just as valuable as a few extra bucks...I get a little more sleep!!! They need to be thankful for the dwindling number of drivers out here that take the initiative to do simple repairs themselves (correctly) instead of having a high dollar parts changer in a truckstop uniform do it.

They sure do. Of course most of the new breed seem to have absolutely no clue on that stuff.

Keep in mind many of us would do that if allowed. Several times I’ve been told I wasn’t allowed to even change the wipers after doing so. This was followed up with the reminder that if I did change anything and something was “found” to be messed up, I’d have to pay the full repair cost myself.

Thankfully I’m no longer in that situation.

Load delivered, and made it a truckstop without running out of hours on my 70. Thanks to traffic coming east at the LA/MS line, then traffic thru the Mobile tunnel(all the way to Robertsdale) it was tighter than I would like, but I made it from Rancho to St. Augustine in a little under 76 hours...now I have to see a proctologist to have the wings that sprouted out of my but removed.

And of course, as I was leaving AL this morning, it started to rain and storm. All the way across FL it was raining off and on, and it poured at the customer...right up until the time I was strapping down my tarps...then it quit. Now for a nice relaxing 34.

I’d say you earned your reset. Dang good job, lots of drivers couldn’t have turned that trip in 4 days.

My first load of crated machinery. 4 hours and 5 tarps later I was heading north out of LA. I don’t know how people live here, drove 7 1/2 hours today and only covered 273 miles. I agree with you on the insane traffic, you couldn't pay me enough money to live anywhere near that place. And I hope I never graduate to that level of oversize hauling, I would probably still be tarping a load like that as slow as I tarp things.

Did they get your truck's issues reslolved?

Well, I said it was gonna be a relaxing 34...but I forgot all the things I have to do...3 loads of laundry, I have to squeeze all the hooks on the bungee straps that were on this load(they're all new ones but they aren't as tightly squeezed together as I like...but they're new, so...) and I have to sort out my straps in my step box. The other day I got replacement straps for the load I dropped in Rancho, but with all the bouncing around coming down from WA, all the stacked up long 4" straps I have kinda bounced around and I couldn't fit everything in, so the extras have been riding with me in the cab. Plus the inside of my truck is in need of a cleaning. So much for resting on a 34...but that's trucking.
