Yea I called my POC in Webster SD and asked if I should come up, and he asked if I was an idiot. Lol so I’m gonna shoot for Thursday trying to get up there. The storm path seems to be kind of veering more north than what was initially projected, but still 60 mph and a 40’ aluminum trailer standing up in the air isn’t a very good mix.

Nah. Rescale it. I’ve never been questioned, I get random scale tickets all the time for various reasons. My cat scale app has the payment information saved.

I loaded this in Washington. Scaled at 80,500. Permitted at 83,000 and rolled into sd at 84,500 because of ice buildup. Next day I left with a new permit and about $300 lighter. I don’t recommend it. F7BAA2CC-616E-42B8-841F-EBFCE72C5A69.jpeg

    1500 extra lbs of ice?....

I may be here for a whole day. WY just updated the I-25 closure. Estimated time to open (at 5 pm) was 20-25 hrs. SD has some of 90 open, but closed more going east. It's now closed to Murdo instead of Wall.

@supersnackbar if the original scale was accurate thats 4000 pounds of ice. He scaled at 80500 but permitted for 83000.
@kylefitzy do you have to pay that overweight ticket or the company since you were legal when you left

1,500 lbs of ice is less than 30 cubic feet of snow/ice, or about 1 inch on a 50 foot by 8 foot deck.

I did pay the ticket, you have to in SD before you leave. They said they would reimburse me but never did and I didn’t follow up on it. I looked and It was actually only $186. Cost of doing business when one does as much oversize as I do.

This is the only picture I have of the iced up trailer. This is after going at it with a 3 pound sledge hammer. Image-1.jpeg

edit to add: that’s not the only iced up trip I had last year. This load started out right at 80k and ended up at 83k. But I was smart enough to order new permits. The pony motor would not start because everything was iced up so I learned how to side load an excavator that day. 15496FA7-02E5-4637-AB34-BC28A95B7D8C.jpeg

I say the new trucks need those half fenders over the front drives. I have as much ice on my headache rack and everything on it as I do on the front of the trailer. Since this Volvo is so nose heavy I keep my 5th wheel behind the half way point of my tandems so the front drives are mostly exposed.

Well, 90 in SD is open, but based on the latest road camera images, it shouldn't be. Road is either glazed ice, snow covered or drifting over. However, 90 in WY has rolling closures. 25 south of the 25/90 split is estimated to reopen late this afternoon. Either way, I won't be able to turn the miles I need to turn in the next 3 days to deliver my 1st stop Friday in Chattanooga. Too bad SPD doesn't have a SE regional...if I never saw another flake of snow it wouldn't hurt my feelings.
