You mean a legal, no tarp load like this?

To give a clue as to how much securement was needed for these scissor lifts

    PXL_20230505_003429177.jpg

And I picked up 2 extra chains and 2 extra binders before leaving the yard. I have one old extra chain in my center box and one old rusted ratchet binder left.

And now for a little of the old Snackbar...

My opinion of these new Reitnouer trailers...I'm not a fan.

The good, they're new, they pull good and have all LED lights.

The bad, only 2 options for axle position, all the open as a spread, all the way closed. No chain pullouts on the deck, can only chain thru the rub rail. The rub rail spools are square with rounded corners, which with a normal load wouldn't be a problem. But with this many smaller scissor lifts, you have to use 1 chain for 2 lifts, so you have to go down thru the rail, around a spool or two and back up, then the corner of the spool doesn't like to let the chain slide tight when you tighten the binder. Also, while I like having the hooks to rope down a tarp when needed instead of bungees, where they had to mount them, the chain either hooks them as you're fishing it thru, or the chain goes up and over if you are going around 2 spools.

With a normal load, it won't be a bad trailer but with this load, they're a PITA.

    Rant over...

    And I am a killer...

I got behind several bee hive haulers today...the whole front of my truck looks like I committed bee mass murder. I even have several stingers stuck to my side window.

Question do you guys have the option to run straps to the bar under the trailer? Don’t forget to check your ratings, I like the Reitnouer’s because the side rail is good for 6,600 lbs which matches my chains and binder and of course I do a lot of equipment. Personally I like either open or closed but some folks like moving their axles to any ole place, I never have had a problem loading and with as much drop and hooking as you guys do it’s better to keep things simple. Especially if you are going to start sharing more with your cousins.

For those lifts you can use a single spool and go with de-rating to 5,500 I believe, or use two for the full WLL. We carry 14 chains and binders and on the occasional load like that you just don’t seem to have enough - they are a PIA and should be left to your Wylie cousins in my opinion. Enjoy the run and stay out of the crap weather!

These have the thick bar behind the strap winches for strap hooks. The ATS guy that loaded beside me on a stepdeck ran his chains down and around his strap winch spool. He must not keep the same trailer very long, the chains will scarf up those real quick then it'll tear up straps

I have 9 smaller lifts, and 3 big ones. I guess I could have went one chain for 3 (per side)on the small ones, but I'm not sure our chains are long enough for that.

I have a question for @kylefitzy and/or @The Block Robert... Do any of our regular customers have a location up in the Purgatory (Boston) area? This is as far north and east I have been with SPD, so I am just wondering how far to plan to deadhead once I drop my last lift off next week.

I’ve never loaded anything out of that area, but I’ve only been up there a few times. I bounce down to NJ and get a container or Dundalk to load machinery. I’ve also loaded train wheels out of PA going to Illinois to get an elevator out of Joliet.

one of my favorite things about this company is I’m basically allowed to set my own schedule and pace as delivery windows allow. My delivery is FCFS Tuesday or Wednesday. I could deliver Monday but I would only have 2-3 hours on my 70 with nothing coming back Tuesday. So I told my travel agent I’ll get close Sunday night, reset, and deliver Tuesday morning. That will make two weeks in a row of running out my 70 in 7 days.

I love that about this company as well. My load doesn't have to deliver until the 25th of this month, but can deliver any time up until then. So I will have all of them kicked off by Wednesday afternoon, which by my standards is slacking off....I mean, 8 days to run a 5 stopper load from the Seattle area to Boston o_O ? - but I don't start getting hours back until Wednesday night, and there isn't many free places to reset up there, so I will stretch out the deliveries a little. I love how I can run my arse off how I prefer, then reset. And, I think I have my travel agent accustomed to running me like that.
