A story I read today said the average hourly pay for a UAW union worker is in the $30's per hour plus time and a half for hours over 40. And part of the original story said they are working almost as many hour per week as we do. They guys I worked with in the 80's were grossing $50k+ almost 40 years ago, you can't tell me they are making the same now. The only auto workers making lower wages are new hires... and the new cars they buy from their own company are sold to them at or near cost, so they get a lot cheaper vehicle than the inflated prices you and I have to pay.

Are you aware of what forced obsolescence is? That's probably the payment for an average car, not a corvette or some exotic super car. Funny how you mention necessities. Throw in food being $200 a week, and rent being $1500 a month, at least. Though phones aren't that much, I'm paying $300a month for 3 lines, 3 phones, unlimited talk, text, data no discounts, insurance etc. I can afford that though, as I'm not paying rent or car

I have to laugh at you calling someone else an entitled crybaby. Like weren't you just complaining about not getting paid to retarp? I agree, you should get paid for the work you do, seriously. I guess you're the only one that can complain about being underpaid though.

Being underpaid is completely different from not getting paid.

    Duh.

Could you at least get the decade correct? "Black Tuesday", the day the stock market crashed was Oct 29, 1929. Most historians begin the "Great Depression" on that day and end it somewhere in 1939.

I'll point out that the "Roaring 20's" was fueled by the economic reforms brought in by Progressives and Labor Unions, coupled with the crippling of Europe's economy during WWI. An economic boom that was imperiled by Harding's corruption and Coolidge's 'laissez faire' philosophy.

I stand corrected. My dad was born in the early 20's, so in order to even have a clue about what a depression was, he would have had to be older than a toddler age.

Exactly. If I were being paid more to tarp the 1st time (or overpaid since what they pay is around the standard tarp pay for flatbed), then I wouldn't say a word. But having to untarp and retarp is more work than the initial tarping to begin with, let alone doing it 3 extra times. Hell, if I were on @kylefitzy's pay plan, I would really be #####ing about tarp pay.

I'm not trying to start an argument, just spelunking for perspective.

Assume the current pay structure for both you and your management. If your dispatcher was receiving an effective 10% raise per year and you were receiving an effective 2% raise per year, would you accept that as "the way the world works" or "if I wanted more money then I should get skills to move into management"? Or would you raise unholy hell about it?
